10-yr-old girl dies after getting trapped in lift

Vishakhpatnam, Jun 5: A 10-year-old girl died after she was trapped in between the lift and its door at an apartment complex at Tarakarama Nagar, Madhurawada here, on Sunday.

liftP. Pandu of Pusapatirega in Viziangaram district came to the city to eke out a living and is employed as a watchman at the apartment complex. His daughter Swathi (10) was studying in Std. III at a school in Madhurawada. She went to take the lift for going to the first floor.

She was very lean and got struck in the space between the grill gate and the lift door and her stomach and chest were crushed resulting in her instantaneous death, according to P.M. Palem Inspector K. Lakshmana Murthy. The police registered a case under Section 174 of Cr. PC and the body was shifted to the KGH for post-mortem examination.

Kochi, Mar 24: A 54-year-old domestic passenger was arrested at the airport here for allegedly refusing to follow instructions given by doctorsfor prevention of the spread of novel coronavirus, police said here on Tuesday.

Lami Arackal from Ernakulam, who landed from Chennai at the Cochin International Airport at Nedumbassery on Monday night, was arrested based on a complaint from health officials, they said.

He was, however, later released on bail.

Arackal allegedly refused to wear mask and follow other instructions to be observed by the passengers coming from other states as part of the measures to check COVID-19 spread.

He also allegedly misbehaved with the medical officers, police said.

Nagpur, Apr 5: A 23-year-old man allegedly committed suicide in Imambada area in Nagpur on Saturday due to financial distress, police said.

Nikhil Gavhane, who worked in a grocery shop, hanged himself as he had taken money from a person and was stressed over repayment, an official said.

"He was depressed since a week," the Imambada police station official said.

Panipat, Mar 3: A 22-year-old man was charred to death after he came in contact with a live electricity wire while posing for a TikTok video near the Matlaudha railway station here, police said on Tuesday.

The incident took place on Monday evening when Vikas, a resident of Dharamgarh village, climbed a pole over which the wire was passing and posed for the video, police said.

His three friends were standing below when the accident took place.

Vikas came in contact with the wire carrying 25,000 volts current and was burnt, police said.

Police have sent the body for a post-mortem and started investigation into the matter.
