Mangaluru, Apr 24: Customs personnel at Mangaluru International Airport on Sunday seized 1.1 kg gold valued at Rs. 35.32 lakh that was being allegedly smuggled into the country by overseas passengers.
Gold was seized from passengers coming from Qatar’s Doha by Air India Express. The passengers were arrested later.
The sleuths arrested a passenger with 462.97 grams of gold valued at Rs. 14.81 lakh and another passengers with 641 grams of gold valued at Rs. 20.51 lakh.
These passengers had stashed the gold in paste form in their rectum.
While the passenger in the first instance was booked and will face a court case, the accused in the second instance was arrested since the value of gold seized was above Rs. 20 lakh.
