13 die as Tirupati-bound bus collides with sand-laden lorry

Kolar, Sep 9: Thirteen people were killed and 17 injured when a Tirupati-bound Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus from Tumkur collided with a sand-laden lorry near Mulbagal in Kolar district on Monday.

The tragedy occurred at Sreerangapur Gate in Nangli police station limits around 2.30 p.m. The driver of the bus Gangadharaiah (50) was among the victims. While nine were killed on the spot, four died at the R.L. Jalappa Hospital in Kolar, where they were admitted.

By late evening, the authorities were trying hard to identify the bodies of the victims. The police were able to identify only 10 people, three among whom were from Bangalore. The people identified are Nagamani, Narayanamma and Bharati Brahmachari (all from Bangalore), Nagesh and his wife Divya (Kolar), Vijayamma (Mulbagal) Rajashekhar and Likhitkumar (Palamner in Andhra Pradesh).

Narasimharaju, the conductor who has been admitted to a government hospital in Mulbagal, said that 31 passengers were in the bus at the time of the accident. Though the bus started from Tumkur, all the passengers alighted in Bangalore and a new lot boarded in Bangalore and Kolar. They were travelling towards Tirupati and other places in Andhra Pradesh. Fifteen had purchased tickets for Tirupati, six for Chittoor and four to Palamner, he said.

The Divisional Controller of KSRTC has announced an ex gartia payment of Rs. 2.5 lakh each to the families of the dead persons.

Bengaluru, Feb 19: Bengaluru City Crime Branch (CCB) on Wednesday raided a spa in Koramangala area and rescued six girls.

The owner of the spa is absconding and the manager has been arrested.

Mumbai, Mar 15: Three suspected coronavirus patients who were quarantined left a government hospital in Maharashtra's Ahmednagar district on Saturday evening without informing anybody, the police said.

By late night, however, two of them returned to the Ahmednagar district civil hospital. Search was on for the third patient, a Topkhana police station officer said.

Earlier, two women and a man admitted to an isolation ward of the district hospital in Ahmednagar, left without informing the doctors, an officer said.

The civil surgeon contacted the Tophkhana police station in Ahmednagar city and sought polices help in tracing these persons, whose medical reports are awaited, the official added.

A person in Ahmednagar district is among the 31 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Maharashtra.

Bengaluru, May 6: Central Crime Branch Police have nabbed 71 people involved in various crimes taking advantage of Lock-down which prevents movement of people in the street and seized stolen properties worth about Rs 1.70 crore, official said on Wednesday.

Police said that in all 56 cases were booked. In all 17,312 duplicate Sanitisers, 2000 lts of Chemicals, 18,750 fake Masks, 270 Thermometers and two cars were seized from the arrested culprits.

During the raid godowns where rice and dal meant for free distribution during lock-down were robbed and stored were also seized.
