Mandya , Nov 24: At least 30 passengers, including 15 women and seven children, were killed when a private bus plunged into the Visvesvaraya Canal near Kanaganamaradi near Pandavapura in Mandya district on Saturday. Only two passengers, including a schoolboy, survived the accident.

The bus was bound for Mandya from Pandavapura via Chikkabyadarahalli and Shivalli. The bus plunged into the 12-feet-deep canal between Kanaganamaradi and Vadesamudra villages at 12.25 pm after the driver lost control over the vehicle.

According to sources, 32 passengers, including eight school children, were travelling on the bus. Except for Girish, a carpenter, and Rohith, a class VII student, all other passengers died in the accident.

Girish, who managed to break open the window pane of the bus, rescued Rohith. Rohith and four of his friends boarded the bus at Kanaganamaradi, nearly two kilometres from the accident spot. As it was a Saturday, the school students boarded the bus at Kanaganamaradi.

It is said that the driver lost the control over the vehicle due to a technical glitch. The steering wheel of the vehicle got locked and the driver could not control the bus.

A majority of the passengers were from Vadesamudra and were returning to the village from Pandavapura.

Soon after the incident, the police and Fire and Emergency Services personnel rushed to the spot. The firemen, with the help of local people, fished out the bodies, which were handed over to the family members after the postmortem.

On hearing the news, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, who rushed to the village from Bengaluru, announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh for the family members of the deceased. District in-charge Minister C S Putaraju, Transport Minister D C Thamanna and former chief minister Siddaramaiah visited the spot and consoled the victims’ families.

The villagers blamed the driver for negligent driving, bad condition of the road and the bus. The villagers said that the bus was very old and was not in a good condition. The villagers depend on private buses to travel in the region.

As news of the accident spread, thousands of people thronged to the spot. With vehicles occupying the road, traffic piled up for nearly three kilometres. The crowds also impeded the rescue operations.

Mangaluru, Jun 19: Mohammad Haneef Guddemane, a cattle trader, who was thrashed by the miscreants of Bajrang Dal while legally transporting cattle last weekend, today appeared before media and demanded appropriate action against the assailants.

The attack took place on June 14 at Urwa in the city when he was transporting four buffalos along with all necessary documents. The attack was also captured on a CCTV camp.

The victim, who addressed a press conference today, said that it was not the first time he is transporting cattle as into animal and husbandry for years.

“I had bought 10 she-buffaloes on June 13 from Ranennur and obtained certificate from the local government veterinary doctor after which the animals were brought to my village,” said Haneef, who is a resident of Jokatte on the outskirts of the city.

He said that he was transporting four out of the ten she buffaloes he had bought to the slaughterhouse at Mangaluru on June 14 when a gang of around 15 members which intercepted his vehicles near Urwa police station dragged him out of the vehicle, rained abusive words at him, made blasphemous remarks about his religion, and hit him with a helmet besides kicking him.

He said that three of the assailants were armed with sabre, iron rod and wooden sticks.

"They also tied me to the vehicle and assaulted. They also attacked me with their arms but I escaped. Their plan was to kill me. Fortunately, the police reached the spot and the assailants escaped. However, they thoroughly damaged my vehicle and robbed Rs 7,800 I had with me. I got treated at Highland Hospital in the city," he stated.

Expressing shock over the soft corner approach of the police towards the assailants, he said that only six of around 15 attackers were booked by the police.

“All the accused were let off by the police after registering petty cases. Ironically, the police had not recorded my statement. On the day of attack, they had asked me to sign on a paper. It contained the complaint written by themselves. Hence, on June 17 I visited the Urwa police station and recorded my statement,” he said.

He said that even though he has all the documents pertaining to the cattle that he had purchased, the police had registered false cattle theft charge against him.

Former city mayor K Ashraf, Hyder, bother of the victim and Shamsuddin, Jokatte gram panchayat vice president were present at the press meet.

Bengaluru, Jan 29: The Karnataka unit of BJP has urged the Centre and the State governments to ban the Popular Front of India (PFI) and the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), accusing them of harbouring terrorist tendencies.

Addressing a press meet, N Ravi Kumar, state general secretary of the party, alleged that there was a nexus between the Congress, the PFI and the SDPI.

“Recent reports have exposed the links between the PFI and the Congress,” he said, accusing Congress leader Kapil Sibal of receiving huge funds from PFI to defend their cases in the Supreme Court.

He also accused the organisations as the ones responsible for the death of 23 Hindu activists in Karnataka. Such incidents have proven that both SDPI and PFI are dubious organisations, he said.

PFI is the first kind of organization which is doing community work in all the walks of life.

and providing the helping hands to all the Indian community doing marvelous job.

this is the first organization fighting against corrupt and injustice following the principle of our father of nation mahatma Gandhi’s.

the corrupt and injustice people in the society not ready to accept their policy and trying to stop the voices of justice to the society.

I wish PFI and its sub organizations will continue to support to the society and keep the good work so that people are with you.

RSS is the most active and first ever terrorist organisation in India and it should be banned first.    There is no proof of terrorist activities by SDPI and PFI.    BJP is afraid of these organisations as they give tought resistance to BJP and this is the reason why its planning to ban these organisations.    BJP is doing propoganda only.   Real thread for peace + harmoney in India by sanghis.   We should ban them first.
