15-year-old Bengaluru girl, boyfriend stab father to death, set him ablaze

Bengaluru, Aug 20: A 15-year-old girl and her boyfriend stabbed her father to death in his sleep and set him ablaze for objecting to their relationship, police said on Monday.

The girl and her 18-year-old boyfriend have been detained, Assistant Commissioner of Police V Dhananjay Kumar told news agency Press Trust of India.

The girl allegedly added some calmpose tablets in milk and gave it to her father when he returned home after dropping his wife and son at the railway station, who left for Puducherry to attend a marriage.

After he fell asleep, she and her boyfriend allegedly stabbed him to death.

The duo then dragged the body of the 41-year-old businessman inside the bathroom, where they set him ablaze.

When neighbours saw smoke emanating from the house, they alerted police and the fire brigade, which rushed to the spot.

When they went inside, they found the partially charred body of the girl’s father with 10 stab wounds.

The girl and her boyfriend gave conflicting statements on being questioned, police said.

Upon intense interrogation, they confessed to the crime, police said. The girl told police that her father was upset with her relationship.

Recently when she went to a mall with her boyfriend, he took her to task, which irked the girl, who then planned to kill her father.

BSY apprises Oppn leaders about steps to contain COVID-19 in Karnataka

Bengaluru, Mar 30: Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa on Sunday convened an all-party meeting and apprised the Opposition leaders about the measures taken by the government to contain the coronavirus in the state.

"I have been regularly holding meeting since March 13 regarding the measures taken to contain the transmission of COVID-19," the chief minister said at the meeting at the Vidhana Soudha.

Health Minister B Sriramulu, Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar, IT-BT Minister C N Aswath Narayan, Deputy Chief Minister Laxman Savadi, former chief minister and Leader of the Opposition Siddaramaiah, Opposition MLAs H D Revanna, D K Shivakumar and former speaker K R Ramesh Kumar attended the meeting.

The chief minister said a task force comprising ministers and officials has been formed to oversee the implementation of the government orders.

Yediyurappa highlighted the prevailing situation across the globe saying that normal life had been paralysed everywhere.

The chief minister also apprised them about the number of clinics all over the state, availability of medicines and protection gear for the doctors and quarantine rooms in the state.

Karnataka to introduce Bag-less day in Schools from next academic year

Mysuru, Jan 12: Karnataka Minister for Primary and Secondary Education S Suresh Kumar on Saturday said that the State government is planning to introduce 'Bag less Day’ in a week from next Academic year across the State.

He said that the State government is also working out on reducing the weight of the School bags carried by children.

The Minister was speaking after inaugurating ‘Civic sense is my duty – Questioning is my right’ programme organised at Kautilya Vidyalaya in Kanakadasanagar here.

Tabassum wins Mangaluru Press Club Award for service to HIV affected children

Mangaluru, Feb 19: Social worker Tabassum who has been rendering selfless service to HIV/AIDS affected children through her shelter home 'Snehadeep' at Bejai has been selected for the Annual Award of Mangaluru Press Club for the year 2019.

Tabassum, a resident of Konaje was chosen by a team of judges comprising Prof Balakrishna Gatti, Dr Vasanth Kumar Perla and Dr Nagaveni Manchi.
