17-yr-old boy kills 10-yr-old brother after mother says no to grand birthday

Bengaluru, Aug 8: In a bizarre incident, a 17-year-old boy stabbed his 10-year-old brother to death in Tumakuru district of Karnataka apparently to take revenge against their mother who used to pamper the younger one and avoid the elder one because of his violent nature. 

The incident took place around 9.45pm on Tuesday when the boys’ mother, a widow, had gone out for a walk in a park opposite her house. The teenager locked the house from inside and stabbed his sibling in eight places, including stomach, neck and chest. 

The deep stab wounds and consequent loss of blood may have resulted in the boy dying within 20 minutes of the attack, police said quoting doctors who conducted the autopsy.

The younger boy’s screams for help drew the mother, who rushed home to find the door locked from inside. She raised an alarm and neighbours came to her help and broke open the door. The child was found in a pool of blood in front of the TV, while his elder sibling was found hiding in the kitchen.

The victim was rushed to a private hospital nearby where doctors declared him brought dead. The mother was also hospitalised as she lost consciousness on hearing the news of her younger son’s death. The teenager was sent to a juvenile home. He’s already had two stints in the juvenile home, one for robbery and another for attacking pedestrians.

“The teenager had discontinued studies for nearly two years and rejoined the school after his mother forced him. His father, a government employee, died of illness a few years ago and the three-member family lived on a monthly pension of Rs 15,000. The woman, who is a homemaker, had distanced herself from the elder son over his behavioural issues. The teenager accused his mother of partiality,” said police.

Investigations revealed the accused minor, who turns 18 on August 15, wanted to celebrate his birthday on a big scale with music, dinner and gifts for his classmates. However, the mother is said to have declined his request, saying they would have a cake-cutting ceremony and nothing more.

On Tuesday night, the mother and her younger son had dinner, while the teenager locked himself up in the room. “Thinking he was upset with her, the mother did not disturb him. She went to the park. The teenager came out, locked the main door from inside and attacked his brother who was watching TV with a kitchen knife,” said police.

Hubballi, Mar 25: The people living in rural areas of North-Karnataka region have become more aware about deadly Corona virus as they are leaving no stone unturned to prevent people of Bengaluru and other metropolitan cities from entering into their villages. People have put thorny plants on all roads at the outskirts connecting their villages and deployed youths to conduct patrolling round the clock till next 21 days.

Their motto is to prevent their own villagers getting infected from the outsiders especially from cities like Bengaluru and other two-tier cities where positive virus cases are on the rise. They have also take precautionary measures in the wake of Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa's call to the people to return to their native places.

Several people have also dug up the roads leading to their villages to block the entry of outside vehicles. They have put a condition to the outsiders to enter into their villages only after proper health check-up to confirm that they are not infected with Corona positive.

"We don't have access to the proper medical care if Corona virus is entered into our village. The Primary Health Centres are not functioning properly and these centers are facing lack of adequate staff and medical equipments unlike in big cities.Therefore, those who have deserted our village to employ in various jobs in Bengaluru and other cities should confirm that they are tested negative for the virus", said Mallikarjun Patil of Kudal village in Hangal taluk of Haveri district. The village has totally banned the outsiders into their village and warned their fellow villagers to return immediately if they have visited to their relatives' homes in neighboring villages to observe 21-day lockdown.

Hundreds of youths in Itanal village of Chikkodi taluk of Belagavi have also resorted to similar tactics and patrolling in all roads at the outskirts by holding sticks to prevent outsiders from entering into their village until April 14.

People of Hunagunti village in Ron taluk and Kotamuchagi village in Gadag taluk have also adopted similar plan by parking tractors at th outskirts to prohibit the entry of outsiders. They have also created awareness in their villages by beating drums urging the people not to venture outside village for next three weeks.

The police officials have resorted to lati-charge at various places in urban areas when people gathered in large numbers to buy essential commodities.

Chamarajanagar, Feb 7: Health authorities in Karnataka have constituted a mobile team of doctors to monitor villages sharing a border with Kerala districts.

Strong vigil is being maintained by the health authorities in Karnataka after three confirmed cases of Coronavirus was detected in Kerala.

Kerala Health Minister KK Shailaja on Wednesday had informed that three positive cases of Coronavirus were found in the state and other suspects were being monitored in isolation.

The virus originated in Wuhan in December and has since then spread to various parts around the world.

China has imposed quarantine and travel restrictions, affecting the movement of 56 million people in more than a dozen cities, amid fears that the transmission rate will accelerate.

Mangaluru, July 31: Coronavirus related deaths in Dakshina Kannada continued to surge, with the district administration recording five more fatalities in a day, thus taking the tally to 155.

The district has recorded multiple deaths every day from July 1 to 31. A majority of the deaths are due to comorbid conditions.

Among the five deaths reported today, a 47-year-old man from Mangaluru, was admitted to private hospital on July 30, and breathed his last on the same day. He was suffering from ARDS, Type 1 respiratory failure, COPD, Type II DM, HTN and died due to cardiac arrest.

Another patient was a 75-year-old man from Bantwal, who was admitted to a private hospital on July 23, and passed away on July 30. He was suffering from acute coronary syndrome, pneumonia (ARDS), metabolic encephalopathy, acute kidney injury, systemic hypertension, and type 2 diabetes mellitus.

The third patient was a 63-year-old man from Mangaluru, who was admitted to a private hospital on July 18, and passed away on July 30. He was suffering from ARDS, septic shock, renal failure, and secondary bacterial infection.

The fourth patient was an 88-year-old woman from Davanagere, who was admitted to a private hospital on July 9, and passed away on July 30. She was suffering from septic shock, and secondary bacterial infection.

The fifth patient was a 75-year-old man from Mangaluru. He was admitted to Wenlock hospital on July 15, and passed away on July 30. He was suffering from refractory ARDS, septic shock, renal failure, acute coronary event, arrhythmias, pulmonary thromboembolism, and hemoperitoneum.

The district administration said that though the above patients contracted coronavirus, the exact cause of their deaths is being investigated by a team of experts and their report is awaited.

On the other hand, Dakshina Kannada district recorded a total of 204 fresh cases, taking the tally to 5,713. Among the 204 new cases are 75 primary contacts, 63 with influenza-like illness (ILI), and 14 with severe acute respiratory illness (SARI). As many as 52 cases are under investigation. As many as 70 patients were discharged on Friday from Wenlock as well as private hospitals.

As per the district health bulletin, a total of 40,706 samples have been tested so far and 34,993 out of them have tested negative. Among the 5,713 positive cases reported in the district, only 2,929 are currently active. As many as 2,631 persons have recovered and been discharged.
