Mangaluru, Apr 8: A chilling case of sexual assault on a teenage girl by her own family members has come to light in Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka.

The 17-year-old victim hails from Bantwal taluk. The uncle of the victim has already been arrested by the police after he allegedly raped her on April 3 in Ullal. Now they are on the lookout for her father, who had allegedly been sexually exploiting her for a year.

According to police, on April 3, the victim along with her mother had gone to Ullal to visit her uncle Addu’s (name changed) ailing mother. In the night Addu allegedly raped the girl and threatened her with dire consequences if she spoke about it. However, next morning she informed her mother, who approached the jurisdictional Ullal police station by afternoon and formally lodged a complaint.

The police registered an FIR under sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC and sections 4 (penetrative sexual assault) and 6 (aggravated penetrative sexual assault) of the POCSO Act.

By April 4 evening, the police managed to arrest Addu. During interrogation, he reportedly confessed to the crime and also revealed that the girl’s father also had been raping her for nearly a year.

When the victim was taken for a medical examination at Government Lady Goschen Hospital, she also gave a separate statement to doctors and members of the Child Welfare Committee that she was raped by her father in the past in Bantwal.

Based on reports by the doctor and CWC members, the Bantwal Rural police registered a case against victim’s father under Sections 4 and 6 of POCSO Act and Section 376 of the IPC. However, the father had gone absconding. The cops have launched a manhunt.
