Kerala's Leader of the Opposition Ramesh Chennithala on Friday claimed a political conspiracy in the murder of Youth Congress leader M Shuaib in Kannur, by pointing out that 19 murder case convicts were granted parole ahead of the killing.

Chennithala released to the media copies of a home department order dated January 23, 2018, that carries the recommendation by a review committee to grant conditional parole to the prisoners.

Parole of other prisoners who were already out was also extended on January 16, 22, 23 and 24, he said.

The CPM-led state government is facing the Opposition's heat over the gruesome killing, with the Congress maintaining that the assailants are affiliated to the ruling party.

Shuaib (30), Youth Congress block secretary in Mattannur, died on Tuesday after sustaining serious injuries in an armed attack at Theroor.

He is reported to have sustained 37 injuries below his waist. Two other Congress workers were also injured in the attack.

"The police don't have to search in the dark for the killers. They just need to interrogate the local CPM leadership," Chennithala said.

The 19 prisoners who were granted parole include Sunilkumar aka Kodi Suni, P K Rajeesh and Anoop, all convicted in the 2012 murder of T P Chandrasekharan, who left the CPM to form the Revolutionary Marxist Party.

"The CPM criminals have followed the pattern of their earlier killings. The party has plotted and executed this murder through its killer squads," Chennithala said.

He claimed that the police are waiting for a list of "dummy" names from the CPM to make arrests. Shuaib was involved in recent clashes between student wings of the CPM and Congress.

Even as the local CPM leadership refuted allegations of its involvement in the murder, the Congress has also claimed that Shuaib was earlier marked for murder in a sub-jail by inmates affiliated to the CPM.

Bengaluru, Mar 11: Jyotiraditya Scindia has not betrayed the Congress, but he has been betrayed by the Congress and Kamal Nath, said on Wednesday Madhya Pradesh Congress MLAs who are camping here after tendering the resignations.

"It is not Jyotraditya Scindia who has betrayed. Instead, he has been betrayed by the Congress and Kamal Nath. Despite the fact that it was his hard work that enabled Congress to form the government in MP after 15 years, yet he was being sidelined. His people were sidelined," Mahendra Singh Sisodia was heard saying in a video.

Taking a veiled jibe at Chief Minister Nath, Sisodia said: "On one hand, you claim that treasury is empty and on the other, works worth Rs 12,000 crore is done in Chhindwara constituency. Are the rest of MLAs and ministers just killing time?"

He also warned other Congress MLAs that the party would be decimated in the state in the future.

"Did not the Congress trick people in MP? What happened to the farm loan waiver announced? When we go to our region, people ask us what happened to loan-waiver.
What happened to curb corruption, Vyapam? Whichever party Scindia joins, we will go with him," he said.

Former MP Minister Imarti Devi said that all 22 MLAs are in Bengaluru out of their own choice.

"All 22 MLAs are here (in Bengaluru) on their own will. We are happy Scindiaji has taken this decision. I will always stay with him even if I had to jump in a well. Kamal Nathji never heard us," she said.

Another leader dismissed talks of being in touch with anyone and said that they are happy with the decision of Scindia, who joined the BJP earlier today. He had resigned from the Congress on Tuesday.

Udupi, Jun 4: Karnataka Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakhar on Wednesday said that he will take up an issue before a high-powered committee on COVID-19 to find out the possibility of imposing lockdown on a particular house of the person infected with the virus instead of sealing down of entire areas.

Talking to reporters here on Tuesday after reviewing the district's prevailing COVID situation, the minister said the concept and modalities of declaring any area as containment zone has undergone changes in the last two months.

"Hitherto, we were declaring the entire area as the containment zone after detection of coronavirus positive cases. Subsequently, the area of the containment zone was decreased from the whole area to a particular street," the Minister said.

"Now, BJP MLA Raghupati Bhat has given a suggestion to seal down a particular house of the positive patient which would be taken up before the high-powered panel. The district administration concerned could supply all essential items to the particular family," he said.

He further said that the Union government has been providing all facilities to all the states to deal with the situation."
