2 arrested in Karnataka Premier League match-fixing scandal

Bengaluru, Oct 25: The Central Crime Branch (CCB) on Friday arrested two persons in another case of alleged match-fixing in Karnataka Premier League.

According to Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sandeep Patil, "Another case of match-fixing has been uncovered by CCB in Karnataka Premier League. Bangalore Blasters Bowling coach Vinu Prasad and Batsman Vishwanathan have been arrested."

"The accused were involved in fixing of a match in 2018 between Bangalore and Belgavi teams. The accused batted slowly for which he got Rs five lakhs. Few bookies are involved who will be arrested," Patil added.

Further probe in the case is underway.

On October 2, Central Crime Branch (CCB) had arrested one person in connection with its ongoing investigation into the alleged Karnataka Premier League (KPL) match-fixing scandal.

The arrest came after the CCB registered an FIR against two bookies. While one accused, Bhavesh Bafna was arrested, the other person, identified as Sanyam, was absconding.

The duo had allegedly approached the Ballari Tuskers, a cricket team, to give "more than ten runs per over, but the bowlers refused" to do it.

The police had earlier arrested Belgavi Panthers team's owner -- Ali -- for placing bets on the matches. He had allegedly placed bets with a bookie based in Dubai and was in touch with players of other teams during the league.

Mangaluru | Miscreants pour kerosene on 200kg beef, thrash driver after waylaying vehicle

Mangaluru, June 21: A gang of miscreants intercepted a goods auto-rickshaw which was legally transporting beef from an abattoir to market and attacked its driver in heart of the city this morning.

The attack comes exactly a week after a gang of Bajrang Dal miscreants thrashed a cattle trader at Urwa while legally transporting four buffalos to Kudroli abattoir on June 13.

Today, a person identified as Abdul Rasheed was transporting around 200 kilograms of beef from Kudroli abattoir to Kankanady market.

Meanwhile, miscreants began to chase beef laden vehicle and managed to waylay it near Highland Hospital. They thrashed Abdul Rasheed and poured kerosene on the beef besides damaging the vehicle.

The miscreants fled in their car and motorbikes after passersby began to gather.

Dear DC Dr. Harsha, we want to know if you will take strict action on these anti nationals / rowdis / day robbers / terrorists who ransacked auto + beaten the auto driwer and stolen Rs. 10,000 from him though he was legally transporting the meat. They same terrorists are involved in transporting live animals to beef export houses in Gujrat owned by Brahmins / Jains. Will you be loyal to your duty and promise. We will see how you will handle the issue failing which you will lose our respect and we will consider you as a dramabaz and phenku. You should follow the law and treat everyone equally. There should not be any pity on goondas/ terrorists belonging to sangh parivar. The terrorists who thrashed the auto driver and damaged the auto and burnt the meat by pouring kerosene are not human beings and should be treated as anti nationals + terrorists. We hope you will discharge your duty as per the oath taken by you while accepting your post.

Over 1,200 assigned for contact tracing in Karnataka

Bengaluru, Jul 8: Karnataka has drafted 1,246 government employees into the crucial task of contact tracing to fight the coronavirus pandemic, and they have been warned of action if they refuse to work.

These are Group A, B and C employees from various departments who have been asked to report to senior IAS officer V Manjula, who heads a task force on Covid-19 contact tracing.

In an order, Chief Secretary TM Vijay Bhaskar on Tuesday said additional human resources were required to strengthen contact tracing, which is “a very important part” of controlling the spread of Covid-19.

Nalin Kateel and BSY are sufficient to solve party issues in Karnataka: Angadi

Bengaluru, May 29: Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa and BJP State President Nalin Kumar Kateel will resolve any differences of opinion among party leaders in Karnataka, according to Minister of State for Railways Suresh Angadi

If anybody has any issues, they should get them resolved by talking with Yediyurappa and Kateel. Internal matters, if any, should not be discussed in public, he said.

Angadi told reporters here on Friday that differences of opinion among party leaders have not come to his notice. A section of party leaders assembling for dinner should not be constituted as a meeting of dissidents. BJP has internal democracy and any differences of opinion if exist will be resolved at the party forum.

He added that if MLA Umesh Katti has any issues regarding cabinet berth or regarding assurances given to him by Yediyurappa during the Lok Sabha elections, he should talk with the chief minister.

Everyone in politics has aspirations and it's natural. Those aspiring for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections should talk with the chief minister or the state president, he said.

Ramesh Katti was former MP and there was nothing wrong in him being aspirant for Rajya Sabha elections, he said.

Angadi said, "Party is supreme. We shall work for the victory of party candidates irrespective of who they were".

A state cabinet meeting was held on Thursday. Many of the MLAs too had been to Bengaluru for constituency-related works. As they had been meeting after a long time, all gathered for dinner, he expressed.
