2 farmers commit suicide

Hassan, Oct 16: Two farmers reportedly committed suicide by consuming poison in Hassan district on Friday.

farmersIn both cases, the deceased’s relatives say that the farmers were unable to bear the burden of loans.

Ramesha (30) of Mavinakere had borrowed over Rs. 2 lakh from a bank apart from a private loan up to Rs. 2 lakh. Holenarasipur Town Police registered the case.

In the other incident, Dase Gowda (70) consumed poison at Lakkehalli in Channarayapatna taluk. He is survived by his wife and four children.

Dase Gowda had borrowed Rs. 50,000 from a cooperative bank, apart from a private loan to drill borewells on his five-acre farm.

When the borewells failed, he lost hope of good returns in his agriculture field.

The Nuggehalli police have registered the case.

Tumakuru, Jun 20: An SSLC student of Siddaganga Mutt here was admitted to the isolation ward of the district hospital on Saturday after he showed Covid-19 symptoms.

Health officials said that the student, a native of the Kurnool in Andhra Pradesh, had returned to the Mutt via Raichur on June 15 for writing the SSLC examination scheduled to begin on June 25.

After he was admitted to the hospital the Health Department Officials kept three of his roommates under quarantine. Throat swab sample of the student has also been sent for testing.

Mandya, Jul 6: With a journalist from Srirangapatna testing positive for Covid-19, the Mandya District Journalists Association was sealed as a precautionary measure.

Association President K C Manjunath said on Monday that as the reporter has tested positive for Covid-19, it was voluntarily decided to seal down the premises for another month.

Belagavi, Jan 16: Six Poachers were arrested in two different cases at Gollahalli forest range in Kittur section in the district on Thursday.

The arrested were identified as Bharmesh alias Bharmappa Hanumant Bhajantri, Mallesh Hanumant Bhajantri residents of Budanakatti in Bailahongal Taluk.

Another alleged accused Yuvraj Basappa Bhajantri managed to escape.
