2 Maharashtra commandos killed in Gadchiroli encounter

Gadchiroli, Mar 23: Two police commandos were killed while another was injured in a gunbattle with Maoists in the forests of Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra on Sunday.

The incident occurred near village Tikameda of the violence-affected district located on the border of Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh.

“Two of our commandos have been killed while one is injured. The troops sustained bullet injuries as they were in a planned operation,” said Inspector General (anti-Maoist operations) Ravindra Kadam.

MaoistsThe encounter occurred when the joint security forces, including the special C-60 commandos of state police, were out for an anti-Maoist operation along the border area of the two states. The operations had been on since Sunday morning.

The police suspect two Maoists were also killed.

Maoists kill 3 of family

Three members of a family were abducted and shot dead by Maoists, whom the family had kept at bay for 25 long years, PTI reports from Lohardaga in Jharkhand.

Balksihore Shahdeo, his son Pramod and brother Jai Kishore were kidnapped from Sahebapat village of the district and shot dead on Saturday night near Marayan jungles, said Superintendent of Police Manoj Ratan. The Shahdeo family had fought the Maoists for the past 25 years, he added.

“We have kept them at bay for 25 years,” said Jharkhand Pollution Control Board former chairman Lalbal Mukund Nath Shahdeo, another member of the family.

The Shahdeos had survived four Maoist attacks in the past.

Union Minister of state for Rural Development and Lohardaga MP Sudarshan Bhagat, Jharkhand Rural Development Minister Nilkanth Singh Munda, Lohardaga MLA Kamal Kishore Bhagat and Jharkhand police chief D K Pandey visited the place.

Aurangabad, Apr 4: A marriage was solemnised on a video call, the unique method which was adopted due to coronavirus lockdown.

A Muslim man named Mohammad Minhajudd, based in Aurangabad exchanged marriage vows with a Muslim woman based in Beed via video call on Friday.

The entire country is witnessing a 21-day lockdown due to which there is a limitation on the movement of people from one place to another and gatherings have been banned to prevent the spread of the coronavirus that has wreaked havoc across the globe.

The marriage halls are also closed during the lockdown period.

The bridegroom's father Mohammad Gayaz said that the marriage was fixed between the two persons six months ago when there was no fear about coronavirus. We got the elders of the family assembled at our home and conducted the marriage on phone.

Mufti Anis ur Rehman, the Qazi who performed the rituals for the marriage, said that both the families are happy as the marriage got conducted with the minimal cost incurred and the ceremony was a simple one.

New Delhi, Feb 11: The government has decided to rename National Institute of Financial Management (NIFM), Faridabad, as Arun Jaitley National Institute of Financial Management, an official statement said on Tuesday.

Set up in 1993 as a registered society under the Department of Expenditure, NIFM trains officers of Finance and Accounts Services recruited by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) as also officers of Indian Cost Accounts Service. The Union Finance Minister is the President of the NIFM Society.

"Aligning the vision and aspiration of the Institute for the future with the vision and contribution of late Arun Jaitley, the Government has decided to rename National Institute of Financial Management (NIFM) as the Arun Jaitley National Institute of Financial Management(AJNIFM)," the statement said.

NIFM has become a premier resource centre to meet the training needs of the central government for senior and middle level of management in the fields of public policy, financial management, public procurement and other governance issues for promoting highest standards of professional competence and practice.

Padma Vibhushan awardee Jaitley was the Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs during May 26, 2014 to May 30, 2019.

New Delhi, Jun 10: India on Wednesday reported a spike of 9,985 more COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the country's COVID-19 count to 2,76,583, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

279 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours taking the total death toll to 7,745.

The total number of active cases has reached 1,33,632 while 1,35,205 patients have recovered. While one person has migrated.

With 90,787 cases, Maharashtra reported the highest number of coronavirus cases in the country followed by Tamil Nadu with 34,914 cases.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 1,45,216 samples were tested in the last 24 hours while overall 50,61,332 samples have been tested so far.
