2 people injured in low-intensity blast in Pune, terror attack not ruled out

Pune, Jul 10: Two persons were injured when an explosive placed on a motorcycle went off near a police station here this afternoon, police said.

The "low-intensity" blast occurred near Pharaskhana Police Station close to the famous Dagdusheth Halwai Temple in the busy Budhwar Peth area around 2:30 pm.pune

Top police officials and Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad have reached the spot, while forensic experts are scouring the area to collect evidence, sources said, adding the condition of those injured, who were yet to be identified, was not serious.

“1 person injured, 2 others have minor injuries, 5-6 cars parked nearby have been damaged a bit. We appeal people to maintain calm, we will definitely nab the culprits,” said Satish Mathur Commissioner of Police, Pune.

Pune was rocked by four coordinated low-intensity explosions on 1 August, 2012 which had left one person injured.

The city had come on the terror radar for the first tine when 17 people were killed and around 60 injured in a powerful blast at German Bakery, one of Pune's favourite eateries, on 13 February, 2010.

Home-grown terror outfit Indian Mujahideen was blamed for both the attacks.

Meanwhile, a team from Mumbai Anti-terrorism Squad has been rushed to assist an ATS team already stationed in Pune in the probe.

Sources in Mumbai ATS said it was too early to conclude whether today's explosion was the handiwork of terrorists.

New Delhi, Feb 18: A Delhi court today sent Sharjeel Imam, who has been named as an "instigator" by the Delhi Police in its chargesheet on violent protests against the amended citizenship act at New Friends Colony near Jamia in Delhi last year, to judicial custody till March 3.

Sharjeel Imam was arrested on sedition charges last month.

The Delhi Police has filed a chargesheet before Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Gurmohina Kaur, naming Sharjeel Imam as an instigator of the violence.

It said it has attached CCTV footage, call detail records and statements of over 100 witnesses as evidence in the chargesheet.

The court had on Monday sent Sharjeel Imam to one-day custody of Delhi Police in the case.

Protestors had torched four public buses and two police vehicles as they clashed with police in New Friends Colony near Jamia Millia Islamia in Delhi during the demonstration against the CAA on December 15, leaving nearly 60 people including students, cops and fire fighters injured.

New Delhi, May 6: The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has extended the validity of electronic way (E-way) bills, whose expiry date fell between March 20 and April 15, till May 31.

"Notification No. 40/2020-Central Tax issued to extend the validity of e-way bills till May 31 for all those e-way bills which were generated on or before March 24, 2020 and had expiry between the period from March 20 to April 15, 2020," the CBIC tweeted on Tuesday.

E-way bill is produced by transporters and businessmen before a Goods and Services Tax (GST) inspector for moving goods worth over Rs 50,000 from one state to another.

New Delhi, April 3: The total number of coronavirus cases in India on Friday climbed to 2301, including 156 cured and discharged and 56 deaths, said the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

At present, there are 2088 COVID-19 active cases in the country.

"A total number of COVID-19 positive cases rises to 2301 in India, including 156 cured/discharged, 56 deaths and 1 migrated," said the Health Department.

The highest number of positive cases of coronavirus was reported from Maharashtra at 335, including 16 deaths, followed by Tamil Nadu (309 and 6 deaths) and Kerala (286 and 2 deaths).

There are 219 coronavirus positive cases in the national capital, including 8 cured and discharged and 4 deaths.

The states which have crossed 100-mark for COVID-19 positive cases also include Andhra Pradesh (132), Karnataka (124), Rajasthan (133) and Telangana (107).

While 18 people were detected positive for coronavirus in Chandigarh, 70 cases were confirmed from Jammu and Kashmir and 14 from Ladakh.

In North-East, one COVID-19 case each has been confirmed from Mizoram and Assam, and two in Manipur.
