Bengaluru, Feb 27: In a gut-wrenching tragedy, two sisters were crushed to death when their scooter was knocked down by a speeding truck before the eyes of their father at Belavangala, Doddaballapura on the outskirts of the city yesterday.

The victims are KR Mahalakshmi, 24, and KR Pallavi, 20, residents of Karenahalli village, Doddabelavangala. They were heading to a temple when they were hit near the 11th Milestone on Doddaballapura-Nelamangala highway. While Mahalakshmi died on the spot, Pallavi breathed her last en route to hospital.

“I was riding pillion on a relative’s motorcycle and my daughters were ahead of me. As I watched, a concrete-mixing truck came in full speed and rammed the scooter. Mahalakshmi, who was riding the scooter, came under the front wheel of the truck, while Pallavi was crushed under the rear wheel,” K Ravi Kumar, father of the two women, told cops.

“I ran towards them and found Mahalakshmi had died and Pallavi, who sustained serious injuries, was breathing. A local offered help to shift Pallavi to Doddaballapura Government Hospital, but by the time we reached the hospital, doctors declared her brought dead,” Ravi Kumar said in his complaint.

The truck driver fled the scene leaving behind the vehicle, police added.

Ravikumar said they were heading to a temple in Hesaraghatta when the accident took place around 11am.

Soon after writing the complaint at the hospital mortuary, Ravi Kumar collapsed. “The accident snatched away his both daughters. Our personnel were in tears while shifting the bodies to ambulance,” said staff from Belavangala police station.

Mahalakshmi was married two years ago while Pallavi was staying with her parents, family sources told police. Both sisters had graduated from Doddaballapura Government College.
