2 years after Bantwal youth’s death in Oman, family gets Rs 25 lakh insurance

Muscat, Sept 10: The family members of a youth from Bantwal taluk, who was killed in a road accident in Muscat, the capital of Oman two years ago, have finally secured over Rs 25 lakh as insurance compensation.

A check of Rs 25, 16, 866 has been handed over to the helpless family of late Muhammed Mustafa through Dakshina Kannada district administration.

Mustafa, who lost his life in the car accident on May 28, 2015, was survived by his ailing mother and three sisters.

Mustafa had flown to Oman to financially support his poor family. Beefathima, mother of Mustafa, has confirmed that she received the cheque on August 31.

The volunteers of the Karnataka Chapter of Indian Social Forum, Muscat, had helped repatriate the mortal remains of Mustafa after his tragic death 2015.

Mangaluru, May 4: In order to protect the frontline coronavirus fighters from the pathogen, students at Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management has developed face shields that will help the front-line healthcare workers.

Mr Johnson Tellis - Chief Innovation Officer, Mr Gautham Nayak - Design Engineer and DreamWorks Makerspacerun by determined students, supported by Sahyadri Start-up ecosystem, at Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management has headed the team.

The team took the initiative along with other maker communities in Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi and the likes, with a pledge to produce and deliver 1 Million face shields across India. In three weeks, the team has contributed to the cause and delivered more than3500 face shields and a ventilator splitter for the Dakshina Kannada and Shimoga region.

Mangaluru, Jun 15: A father and his four-year-old son were killed when their motorcycle was hit by a lorry from behind at Bakampady junction on the outskirts of the city.

The Police said the deceased has been identified as Abdul Bhasheer, a resident of Krishnapura and his son Shayan. 

On Sunday evening, Bahseer was going from Mangaluru to Krishnapura by the motorcycle along with wife and son when a speeding lorry "dashed into the motorcycle from behind and knocked them down''.

The four-year-old son died on the spot while Basher and his wife were rushed to the hospital. However, the husband succumbed to injuries at the hospital on Monday. Local police registered a case in this connection.

Bengaluru, Feb 6: Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa said that portfolios for the 10 new ministers who sworn in on Thursday will be allocated by February 8.

Speaking to media persons, he said that he will go to Delhi in the coming days and the date of his visit will be finalised soon.

He is expected to meet the high command again to finalise the list of BJP MLAs for three berths in the Cabinet.
