Challakere, Sept 13: Thieves decamped with 21 kgs of gold bars worth Rs 6.30 crore, which was kept in a cupboard of industrialist K C Veerendra’s house at Old Town in Challakere on Sunday night.
Thieves also made away with Rs 10.70 lakh in cash from the house of Veerendra’s brother K C Thippeswamy in the same locality, the police said. The thefts took place when the occupants of the houses were away.
The incident came to light when K C Nagaraj, another brother of Veerendra, and his family membes returned home on Tuesday morning, the police said. Based on a complaint lodged at the Challakere Police Station, Chitradurga Superintendent of Police Srinath M Joshi, DySP Roshan Jamir and other senior officers visited the spot.
Veerendra, is the son-in-law of senior Kannada actor Doddanna. After the demonetisation was announced, income tax sleuths had raided Veerendra’s house in Challakere and seized cash worth crores in new currency. He is facing charges of money laundering.
