227th birth anniversary of Tipu Sultan celebrated at Srirangaptna

Srirangapatna, Nov 10: Despite Karnataka government shelving celebration of Tipu Jayanthi in the State, former Minister, MLA Tanveer Sait paid tributes to the tomb of Tipu Sultan, at Gumbaz in Historic town Srirangapatna in Mandya District of Karnataka to mark the 227th birth anniversary of erstwhile Mysore ruler, on Sunday.

Interestingly, Tipu Jayanti coincided with festival of Eid Meelad.

The BJP government headed by Chief Minister B SYediyurappa, after coming to power took a decision not to celebrate Tipu Jayanti due to demand from various quarters, including by MLA K G Bopiah.

Kasaragod, Jan 3: A serving officer of the Central Intelligence Bureau (CIB) was found dead inside his car in Bekal town near here early on Friday.

Police sources said the officer, Rijo Francis (35) has been under treatment after he had an heart attack last year.

Police suspect that the death could be due to heart failure.

Mangaluru, Jun 23: An elderly person, who was undergoing treatment for covid-19 in Mangaluru, breathed his last on today. 

The victim, identified by number P-6282, was a 70-year-old man. He had returned from Bengaluru on June 7. 

He was suffering asthma and pneumonia. He had Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI) symptoms and was hence admitted to the designated covid-19 hospital in Mangaluru on June 12. 

His condition continued to worsen and today he breathed his last, sources said.

With this the total number the deaths of covid-19 patients in Dakshina Kannada district mounted to 9.

Shivamogga, May 10: Karnataka Minister KS Eshwarappa on Sunday informed that eight people who returned to the state from Gujarat have tested positive for COVID-19 in Shivamogga district.

Shivamogga district is under the green zone category.

"Eight people who have returned from Ahmedabad, Gujarat have tested positive for COVID-19 in Shivamogga," said Eshwarappa.

Last week, the district administration had asked shopkeepers to open their shops on alternate days in order to avoid crowding.

According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the state has so far 794 confirmed COVID-19 cases which include 386 cured or discharged cases and 30 deaths.
