Vasco, Jun 29: A 24-year-old taxi driver was found dead inside his car that was found parked on NH17-B at Shantinagar in Goa’s Vasco.

While locals raised suspicions of foul play, the family of the deceased driver, Damodar Yamnappa, suspect that he died of some illness. His family hails from Karnataka’s coastal city of Mangaluru.

Yamnappa who operated his taxi from Goa International Airport, Dabolim, was last seen late Wednesday night while on his way to drop off a customer.

When he failed to return home by Thursday morning, the family started searching for him.

At around 1pm, Yamnappa’s father found his car parked on the highway at Shatinagar.

Thinking that he may be taking a nap, the father attempted to wake him up. However, when he failed to respond, the father broke the glass of the window, only to find Yamnappa unconscious.

Vasco police shifted Yamnappa to the sub-district hospital at Chicalim where he was declared brought dead.

A case of unnatural death has been registered under Section 174 of the CrPC. The body has been preserved at the Hospicio hospital, Margao. LPSI Pramila Fernandes is investigating the case.
