24-year-old woman, lover kill her aged in-laws to hide affair

January 6, 2016

Bengaluru, Jan 6: To conceal her extra-marital affair, a 24-year-old woman and her lover, a jawan in the Army, hacked her in-laws to death and attempted to murder her husband. But alert neighbours caught the duo and handed them over to the police.

The incident took place in AKG Colony in Kadugodi on Monday evening.

affairThe deceased couple was identified as Kannan, 70 and his wife Manoramani, 65. The police arrested Durga and Anji, 23, who is currently posted in Punjab, for the crime.

Kannan and Manoramani, who hail from Vellore, were fruit vendors while their son Manikantan, 34, works as a lab technician in a private company in Electronics City. Durga and Manikantan were married eight years ago and have a seven-year-old daughter and five-year-old son.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Anji and Durga were relatives.

A year ago, they started having an affair. They were in constant touch and used to talk over mobile phones. Kannan and Manoramani got to know about their relationship and warned Durga to stay away from Anji, said the police.

Durga informed Anji that her in-laws had got to know about their affair and that is when they planned to elope. On Sunday, Anji came down to the City from Delhi and spent the night at the Kadugodi railway station.

On Monday, around 11 am, after everyone left for work, Anji went to Durga’s house. Kannan came back home around 11.30 am and found them in a compromising position.

Anji and Durga were shocked to see Kannan and fearing that they would be reprimanded, Anji took a machete and hacked Kannan to death.

They hid the body under the cot in the bedroom. Around 12.30 pm, when Manoramani came home, they killed her too and dumped her body next to that of her husband. They cleaned up the blood stains on the floor.

“Around 7 pm, Manikantan returned home. But there was a power cut. Around 7.30 pm, when the power supply resumed, he went inside the bedroom to get the mobile phone charger. As he entered, Anji kicked him on the chest and hit his head with the machete. Manikantan ducked and was hit on the neck. He ran out of the house screaming,” said a senior police officer.

The neighbours, who heard the commotion rushed there and found Manikantan bleeding.

They noticed Anji and Durga trying to flee the spot. They nabbed them and handed them over to the police.

Alappuzha, Jan 4: The management committee of a mosque in Kerala is all set to solemnize the wedding of a Hindu couple, setting yet another instance of the communal harmony prevailing in Kerala.

The Cheravally Muslim Jamaat Committee at Kayamkulam in Alappuzha district in South Kerala is conducting the marriage of Anju and Sharath after the bride's mother approached the Jamaat authorities seeking help.

The marriage will be held at the mosque premises on January 19 as per Hindu rituals and the Jamaat Committee has also prepared the invitations.

Anju's father Ashokan died a few years back and her mother Bindhu was struggling to win bread for her three children. Nujumudeen Alummoottil, a businessman and secretary of the Jamaat had helped the family earlier also.

Hence Bindu sought his help for the marriage of Anju. Nujumudeen discussed it with other members of the Jamaat committee and members of the mosque.

Najumudeen said that there was no hesitation from anyone on conducting the marriage by the mosque at its premises. A gift in cash and gold would be also given to the couple.

Kerala recently witnessed a church allowing the Muslim believers who participated in an anti-CAA meet to offer namaz at the church premises and another church conducting a carol service with the youth of the parish dressed up in traditional Muslim attire.

Kerala is unique in India for cordial relation between different religions.  However, this is not being digested by sanghis and are trying to build gulf between the communities.  I am sure that people will not let theese anti national succeed in their wicked behaviour.   This communal harmoney is a slap on the faces of enemies of society.    Well done keralites.  Salute to all of you.

New Delhi, Jun 1: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday sought a discussion on advances in telemedicine, the use of "Make in India" products in the healthcare, and the use of IT tools in the medical sector for a healthier society.

Addressing an event at the Rajiv Gandhi Health University in Bengaluru via video conference, he sought a discussion on whether new models can be conceived that make telemedicine popular on a larger scale.

Referring to the "Make in India" program, he said the initial gains made in this field make him optimistic. "Our domestic manufacturers have started production of personal protective equipment and have supplied about one crore PPEs to those in the frontline of fighting COVID-19.

Modi said IT-related tools for healthier societies can be of great help.

"I am sure you have heard of Arogya Setu. Twelve crore health-conscious people have downloaded it. This has been very helpful in the fight against coronavirus," he said.
