New Delhi, May 3: A 26-year-old Group Sales Manager-cum-radio jockey with Radio Mirchi died after she lost control of her over-speeding sedan which fell into a 10-feet deep open drain while she was taking a turn at Sector 85 roundabout in Noida late on Tuesday night.

Police said the incident happened when the deceased, identified as Tania Khanna, a resident of Kavi Nagar area of Ghaziabad, was heading to a friend’s house.

Tania’s friend Dhananjay Singh, who was driving ahead of the victim, said, “We were heading to my house at Supertech Ecociti Society from Atta market area in sector 18. I was driving my car and she was following me. I reached society gate and I was waiting for her. After waiting for 15/20 minutes, I drove back on the route from which I came to check on her. I saw a lot of people gathered near the round-about and a rescue operation was going on.

I suspect that when she was taking a turn at the roundabout, she would have lost control of the car and it fell into the drain opposite the sector 85 police chowki.

According to an eyewitness, they heard a screeching sound and saw a speeding car coming towards them. After the nursery owner informed police about the incident at around 2:30 am, fire services and crane were called in to take out the car from the drain.

“The entire operation took around half an hour after which the car was taken out of the drain. The windshield of the car was broken and Tania was rushed to Yatharth Hospital where doctors declared her brought dead,” said Satendra Kumar Rai, Station Officer of Phase 2 police station.

Officials of at the Yatharth hospital said it appears that she got tangled in the car and the water gushed inside the car and she drowned into it.

“She was brought to the hospital at around 3:25 am, however, her heartbeats were not running. We tried our best, but she didn’t respond to the treatment. There were no injury marks on the body. She would have drowned in the car,” said Dr Ghaus, chief Medical officer of Yatharth hospital.

Police has informed the relatives and ruled out the possibility of her being drunk. The body was sent for a postmortem and reports are awaited, police said.

Tania lived with her parents and two brothers in Kavi Nagar area. She completed her Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) in Retail Management from Amity Business School in 2011 and was a part of marketing team holding the position of Group Manager (sales) of Radio Mirchi.
