Mysuru, May 10: In a shocking incident, three inebriated assailants gang raped a woman and ruthlessly thrashed her male friend on an isolated stretch of Outer Ring Road in Mysuru.

The incident took place in Lingambudhi Palya, which falls on the outskirts of the city. The woman, from KG Koppal in Mysuru, and her friend, from HD Kote, work in a private hotel in the city. The woman was looking for an ATM to pay off a friend from whom she had taken a loan.

Mysuru superintendent of police Amit Singh said that they have formed eight teams to track down the accused.

Around 9.45pm on Wednesday, police said the duo was looking for ATMs in Lingambudhipalya and neared a temple only to find three men sitting in a car on the road and consuming alcohol.

A police officer said the trio allegedly tried to outrage the modesty of the woman. "Her male friend tried to stop them. The trio attacked him and broke his legs with a weapon. Later, they raped her," a police officer said.

Once the trio drove away from the spot, the girl ran for more than 500 metres to hail a vehicle to rush her seriously injured friend to KR Hospital. Later, she, too, got admitted in the hospital. Police learnt about the incident of rape and assault from the hospital.

A police team has started collecting and combing through CCTV footage from the area. Since the ring road has many CCTVs, police expressed confidence that they will nab the culprits soon.

Sharing image of the student, Kaushik, who wrote the SSLC examination at Bantwal’s SVS High School, the Minister said that he was taken aback by the boy’s spirit for writing the exam independently without relying on anyone’s help. Such individuals give new meaning to life. Others should learn from this.

In the picture, Kaushik is seen seated on the floor and using his toes to write answers.
