3 siblings killed as house roof collapses after rain

Koppal, Oct 16: Three members of a family were killed after the dampened roof of their house caved in at Yalamagera village of Koppal taluk yesterday.

The victims have been identified as Sujatha (22), her younger brothers Amaresha (18) and Gavisiddappa (15). Their father Somanna Kudarimoti had a miraculous escape in the tragedy.

The roof of the dilapidated mud house had dampened owing to rain three days ago.

All the four of the family were sleeping outside the house on Monday night, but had to move inside after it started raining.

In the early hours, heavy rafter and mud fell on the three, killing them on the spot. Somanna who was sleeping in a room in the interiors survived. Somanna’s wife had died nine years ago.

Meanwhile, a 45-year-old man was struck dead by lightning in Kudarihal village of Ranebennur taluk.

The deceased has been identified as Shivanandappa Balannanavar. He was working in his fields when lightning struck him.

Ballari, Mar 6: Ballari Deputy Commissioner S S Nakul on Friday said that two persons who had shown symptoms of COVID-19 had been admitted to the district government hospital here.

Informing this to the presspersons here, Mr Nakul said that the cases were reported from Jindal village of K R Hospital taluk and another one from Hospet town in Ballari taluk.

He said a suspect returned from Dubai to Hospet last week and showed symptoms of COVID-19. Both suspected patients were admitted to special isolated ward in Ballari government hospital and their throat swab tests taken on Thursday had been sent to lab in Bangalore to check for COVID-19.

Bengaluru, May 12: The South Western Railway on Tuesday informed that a 'Shramik special train' has left Karnataka for Bihar carrying 1,428 migrants onboard.

The special train carrying migrants to Motihari, Bihar departed from Kabaka Puttur in Karnataka.

Passengers were observing social distancing norms during boarding.

Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had recently granted permission for movement of stranded citizens including migrants labourers, workers, students, tourists to return to their native towns.

As per the list provided by the Karnataka government, South Western Railway is arranging special trains. These special trains are being run from point to point with no stoppages en-route.

Chikkamagaluru, Jan 19: A Chikkamagaluru court on Saturday were sentenced to death two persons convicted of rape and murder 18-year-old girl in 2016.

Pradeep M, 32, and Santhosh, 24, of Vykuntapura in Sringeri taluk raped a 18-year-old girl while she was returning home from college on Februrary 16, 2016.

The crime in which a first year B.Com student who was walking towards her home in a footway was stopped, raped and murdered by the duo. The killers then had dumped her body in a discarded well.
