3-year-old girl killed in hit-and-run accident; locals catch driver

accidentKasargod, Apr 2: In a heartrending tragedy, a three-year-old girl was killed after she was hit by a mini lorry near Pallikere in Kasaragod on Wednesday evening.

The victim has been identified as Fathimath Shazia (3), daughter of Abdul Khader, who works in Middle East.

The accident occurred while the little girl was crossing the road with her aunt. She was returning from nursery school after participating in a programme.

It is learnt that a speeding mini lorry hit Shazia and sped away without stopping.

However, the local residents, who witnessed the accident chased the mini lorry and caught the driver identified as Abdul Kareem.

The driver was handed over to police. Jurisdictional Bekal police have registered a case.

Mangaluru, Jan 13: At least one lakh people from across the twin districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi are likely to attend the protest meet against CAA-NRC on January 15 at Adyar Kannur in Mangaluru.

Massive preparations are going on at the Shaha Garden in Adyar where the event is expected to start at 2:30 p.m.

Organisers have urged the people to make the event successful one by maintain peace and not giving an opportunity for trouble mongers to disrupt the event.

Addressing a press meet here today, K S Mohammad Masood, president of the Muslim Central Committee of DK and Udupi, said that senior activists and priests from different religions also will take part in the event.

The guest list includes acclaimed thinker and activist Harsh Mander, former IAS officer Kannan Gopinathan, retired Supreme Court judge Venkate Gopala Gowda.

Mangaluru Bishop Peter Paul Saldanha, Jnanaprakash Swamiji of Mysuru, Mangaluru Khazi Thwaka Ahmed Musliyar, Udupi Khazi Bekal Musliyar, Ullal Khazi Fazal Koyamma Thangal, JIH leader Mohammed Kunhi and PFI leader Mohammad Shaqib also will among dozens of guests.

Mangaluru, Apr 13: City Commissioner of police P S Harsha on Monday warned people, not to use drones illegally for filming or any other purposes.

Speaking with this regard Harsha said on Monday ,''“We have noticed that persons are illegally using drones to film Mangaluru city. If this continues, we will not only seize the drone but will also take firm legal action against the person responsible. Because Mangaluru is a sensitive place with lots of vital installations.''

He further requested the media houses also not to hire drone services for filming or any other purposes.

Kasaragod, Jul 27: Seven persons belonging to two relative-families who attended a funeral recently had been tested positive for Coronavirus on Monday.

Sources said the two families had been to Thavinjal near here for the funeral of a man who died at the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital on July 19.

Later, the samples of these seven persons were sent for testing after they developed symptoms of COVID-19, the result of which came out on Monday.
