3-year-old girl killed in hit-and-run accident; locals catch driver

accidentKasargod, Apr 2: In a heartrending tragedy, a three-year-old girl was killed after she was hit by a mini lorry near Pallikere in Kasaragod on Wednesday evening.

The victim has been identified as Fathimath Shazia (3), daughter of Abdul Khader, who works in Middle East.

The accident occurred while the little girl was crossing the road with her aunt. She was returning from nursery school after participating in a programme.

It is learnt that a speeding mini lorry hit Shazia and sped away without stopping.

However, the local residents, who witnessed the accident chased the mini lorry and caught the driver identified as Abdul Kareem.

The driver was handed over to police. Jurisdictional Bekal police have registered a case.

Mangaluru, Aug 3: As part of precautionary measures in the region during Bhoomi Pujan in Ayodhya, prohibitory orders under Section 144 will be imposed under the limits of Mangaluru City Police Commissionerate. 

The Section 144 will be in force from 8 p.m. on Tuesday (August 4) to 6 a.m. on Thursday (August 6)

Sources said that the city police commissioner Vikash Kumar Vikash has taken this step following reports about possibility of protests in Mangaluru during Bhoomi Pujan.  

The top cop has warned of stringent action against those who violate the prohibitory orders.

Mangaluru, Mar 24: Seven people were arrested on Tuesday for violating prohibitory orders imposed under Section 144 of CrPC in Mangaluru during the lockdown in Karnataka, Commissioner of Police PS Harsha said.

Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Monday had announced a complete lockdown in the state till April 1.
"In the wake of the coronavirus outbreak, the entire state will be locked down from 12 am of March 23 to April 1. People are requested to strictly follow it to contain the coronavirus spread," he said.
Earlier, the state government had ordered the suspending of all public and private transport services.
According to the data compiled by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), the total number of the infection-related death toll in the country rose to nine on Tuesday, while the total number of active cases reached 482.

Tumkur, Jan 10: A five-year-old boy has been killed by a leopard in Gubi taluk of Tumkuru district in Karnataka.

The local police said today that the incident took place on Thursday evening when the boy was returning home along with his grandmother.

The leopard first attacked a cow and then the boy who was behind it. The feline dragged the body into the forest.

After a search operation by the forest officials, the body was found and handed over to the parents after post-mortem.
