3-year-old girl killed in hit-and-run accident; locals catch driver

accidentKasargod, Apr 2: In a heartrending tragedy, a three-year-old girl was killed after she was hit by a mini lorry near Pallikere in Kasaragod on Wednesday evening.

The victim has been identified as Fathimath Shazia (3), daughter of Abdul Khader, who works in Middle East.

The accident occurred while the little girl was crossing the road with her aunt. She was returning from nursery school after participating in a programme.

It is learnt that a speeding mini lorry hit Shazia and sped away without stopping.

However, the local residents, who witnessed the accident chased the mini lorry and caught the driver identified as Abdul Kareem.

The driver was handed over to police. Jurisdictional Bekal police have registered a case.

Kalaburagi, May 15: Former Karnataka Minister Dr Sharanprakash Patil and 22 others, including several local Congress leaders, have been booked for violating lockdown guidelines by conducting a meeting at a convention hall in Sulpeth town on May 13.

The FIR was registered on Thursday against 23 persons, including the former MLA and 21 local Congress leaders, under Section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by a public servant) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Congress leader Patil and his followers had conducted a meeting at a convention hall in Sulpeth town on May 13, following which sectoral magistrate Muneer Ahmed lodged a complaint.

This comes as the country of under lockdown and the Centre and states have issued strict social distancing and other norms to be followed to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

As a Facilitator in Dance Movement Therapy, she has founded Anveshanam - Centre for Mindfulness and Emotional Wellbeing, an organisation dedicated to addressing mental health issues.

She was honoured by District Commandant, Dakshina Kannada Home Guards, Dr. Muralimohan Chunthar. Senior Home Guard Ramesh Bhandary, Diwakar, Mahesh and lady personnel of Home Guards were present on the occasion.

Bengaluru, Jan 27: Leaders cutting across political parties in Karnataka condoled the demise of former minister Amarnath Shetty, who passed away on Monday after a prolonged illness.

Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa expressed “shock” over the death of the former minister. “May his soul rest in peace. My deepest condolences to his family members,” tweeted CM’s official Twitter handle.
