3-year-old girl killed in hit-and-run accident; locals catch driver

accidentKasargod, Apr 2: In a heartrending tragedy, a three-year-old girl was killed after she was hit by a mini lorry near Pallikere in Kasaragod on Wednesday evening.

The victim has been identified as Fathimath Shazia (3), daughter of Abdul Khader, who works in Middle East.

The accident occurred while the little girl was crossing the road with her aunt. She was returning from nursery school after participating in a programme.

It is learnt that a speeding mini lorry hit Shazia and sped away without stopping.

However, the local residents, who witnessed the accident chased the mini lorry and caught the driver identified as Abdul Kareem.

The driver was handed over to police. Jurisdictional Bekal police have registered a case.

Mangaluru, Feb 23: Karnataka Minister for Fisheries and Religious Endowment Kota Shrinivas Poojari on Sunday said that there will be no shortage of water during the summer season in Dakshina Kannada district as per a review done by the district administration and the Panchayati Raj Department.

He said that periodic review will be conducted and based on that appropriate decisions will be taken.

Speaking to reporters on Sunday, February 23, Poojari said that the main source of water for Mangaluru, the Thumbe vented dam, has a steady inflow of water.

Bengaluru, Aug 1: The Karnataka government on Friday brought in Additional Director General of Police (Intelligence) Kamal Pant as the Bengaluru police Commissioner in a reshuffle of police personnel.

Pant comes in as the city police Commissioner in place of Bhaskar Rao.

According to a government order, Rao will handle internal security as ADGP, a post which was lying vacant due to the promotion of P S Sandhu.

Along with the two officials, ADGP B Dayananda who was in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department and Economic Offences, has been made the new intelligence chief.

Chikkamagaluru, May 9: Karnataka Minister for Tourism C T Ravi on Friday said that Indians who are stranded abroad are being repatriated into the country on the pre-condition of quarantine.

“The Centre is repatriating Indians who are stranded in around 37 countries, amid the lock-down, of which people from Saudi Arabia and Dubai will be brought via ship for free. These people will have to undergo the mandatory quarantine period once they land in the country,” Ravi told media here.

The government has accorded priority to the elderly and pregnant women during the repatriation process. The state government has held due discussions with the Centre in this regard, he added.
