Mangaluru, Aug 4: A 16-year-old boy has allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at his residence in Bettampady in Puttur taluk of Dakshina Kannada district under mysterious circumstances.

The deceased has been identified as Shreeramana Kumar, a Class 10 student, and a resident of Bettampady.

According to police, the boy may have hanged himself between 12am and 6am on Friday. The victim has left behind a note where he has stated that no one is responsible for him to take the extreme step.

Based on the information provided by the school authorities and family members, the police said that the boy had not attended classes on Thursday, and was at home all day. The next day he was found hanging.

Kumar’s family hailed from Sullia and shifted to Puttur after his father committed suicide by consuming poison three years ago. Kumar, along with his mother and older brother, who is going to college in Mangaluru, were staying with their uncle.

In his death note, Kumar has requested the police to refrain from visiting his school and questioning his family as part of the probe into the suicide. A case has been registered at the Puttur Rural police station.
