4 wives & 40 children' concept led to population explosion: Sakshi Maharaj

January 7, 2017

New Delhi, Jan 7: At a public event in Meerut on Friday, controversial MP and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Sakshi Maharaj added a communal tone while speaking about India's population explosion in what many say is an indirect jibe at the Muslim community. The alleged hate speech comes just days after the Election Commission implemented the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) in the poll-bound state. Uttar Pradesh votes in seven phases from February 11 to March 8.

SakshiWithout directly naming anyone, Maharaj reportedly said, “This population rise is not because of the Hindus. Population has risen due to those who support the concept of four wives and 40 children.” He added, “Mothers aren't just birth-giving machines. Mother, Hindu or Muslim, should be respected.”

The BJP leader was in the city in Uttar Pradesh to inaugurate a temple when he made the remarks. Further saying that “the time to endtriple talaq' is here”, he urged the government to implement Uniform Civil Code (UCC) as soon as possible. According to CNN-News18, Maharaj defended his comments saying, “I have not commented on any community. I have been misquoted and ready to face election commission.”

Congress leader KC Mittal told ANI, “Sakshi Maharaj's speech based on caste and religion is very offensive. Its a violation of the MCC and the recent Supreme Court judgement” adding that the party will move EC to formally request action against the leader. The BJP however distanced itself from the MP's remarks with union minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi saying it shouldn't be seen as a stand of the party.

Later explaining his statement, Maharaj said, “The population is rising, land is limited. I just said that women aren't machines and that having 4 wives, 40 children and 3 divorces isn't acceptable.” He added, “(Me and my brothers) should get an award. All four of us are celibate so there's no question of kids.”

Maharaj, the MP from Unnao, has a history of making communally-charged statements. In January 2015, he urged all women of the Hindu community to give birth to at least four children to increase the Hindu population in the country.

This so called MP, Maharajjj now realized should not be afraid of feeding the family.
Food comes for you and your family from the God, as long you do the best and leave the rest on God.

Why does he not marry and set a example instead of preaching.

This type of stupid leaders will remain in the top job, as long there are people to elect them.
Unfortunate the country is sinking going back to stone age, by this mentality of people.

Ya man, please do some useful things to society rather than stupid speeches and spoiling peace. We arent financially strong enough to look after 4 wives equally that's why we are marrying only one. As mentioned in Quran if we can't look after them equally than marry only one. We are following it.

Bhuj, Feb 14: In a horrifying incident, as many as 68 undergraduate girls were paraded through their college into the restroom and forced to individually remove their undergarments to prove that they were not menstruating.

This shameful exercise was conducted at Shri Sahjanand Girls’ Institute (SSGI) in Gujarat’s Bhuj under the supervision of principal and other teachers.

It all began after the hostel rector complained to the principal that some of the inmates had been violating the Hindu religious norms specifically for menstruating females.

According to the sect’s norms, menstruating females are barred from entering the temple and kitchen. They are even forbidden from touching other students. However, the hostel administration reportedly complained to principal Rita Raninga that some girls who were having their periods not just mingled with other hostel inmates, but also entered the kitchen and ventured near the temple on the premises.

“It was sheer mental torture and we don’t have words to describe it,” a student who underwent the traumatic experience said, adding that there were total 68 girls who were forced to pass through the test.

“The hostel administration levelled this allegation and insulted us on Wednesday. On Thursday, when we were attending lectures, rector Anjaliben called the principal and complained about this. We were forced to leave our classrooms and queue up outside in the passage. The principal abused and insulted us, asking which of us were having our periods. Two of us who were menstruating stepped aside,” said another victim.

“Despite this, we were all taken to the washroom. There, female teachers asked us to individually remove our undergarments so they could check if we were menstruating,” she added.

Another teenage undergraduate said, “We come from farflung villages. The college campus houses a school that runs classes from Class 1to 12. They provide hostel facilities to the school students. The college does not have its own hostel. We live with the school-kids in their hostel.”

She added, “The principal, hostel rector and the trustees harass us regularly over the issue of menstruation. We are punished for having periods. This happens even if we follow their religious rules. They made us remove our undergarments because they thought some of us were lying about not having periods, and mingling with the others against rules. But the humiliation meted out to us on Thursday was the last straw. When we protested against this, trustee Pravin Pindoria told us that we could take legal action if we wanted but we would have to first leave the hostel. He also forced the students to sign a letter saying nothing happened in college. But enough is enough.”

Kutch University authorities have, meanwhile, swung into action and a five-member team including in-charge vice-chancellor, Darshna Dholakia, and two other senior female professors visited the college on Thursday. “We will speak to the students and the college authority and later initiate appropriate action based on the findings,” Dholakia said.

Run by followers of Swaminarayan Mandir, the college was set up in 2012 but moved into a new building on the premises of Shree Swaminarayan Kanya Mandir in 2014. The college which offers BCom, BA and BSc courses has about 1,500 students of which 68, who come from remote villages, stay in the hostel on campus. The college is known for its pro-Hindutva stance.

Bengaluru, Feb 8: The BJP on Saturday drew flak on Twitter for taking a swipe at Muslim women who appear to be standing in a line to vote in Delhi's assembly polls. ""Kaagaz Nahi Dikayenge Hum" ! ! ! Keep the documents safe, you will need to show them again during NPR exercise (sic)," the party's Karnataka Twitter handle posted using the hashtag #DelhiPolls2020.

The video, which appears to have been taken from one of the polling booths in Delhi on Saturday, shows burqa-clad women flashing their voter ID cards. While the threatening tone of the tweet is unmissable, the tweet contradicts the government's statement that no person needs to submit any documents during the house-to-house survey for updating the National Population Register (NPR) and that information provided by individuals would be accepted and recorded.

The tweet has added to the prevailing confusion regarding the NPR exercise in the country.

The NPR is a list of "usual residents" of the country. In 2010, the data for NPR was collected along with the house-listing phase of the Census of India 2011. The data was updated in 2015 by conducting a door-to-door survey.

Currently, it has been decided to update the NPR along with the house-listing phase of Census 2021 during April to September 2020 in all the states/union territories except Assam.

Most of the opposition parties see NPR as a prelude to the contentious National Register of Citizens (NRC), which has been opposed by even NDA allies like the JD(U). The NPR questionnaire asked details like the birthplace of parents. In combination with the recently amended citizenship law, protesters fear that the registry might be eventually used for NRC.

As a result, people, predominantly Muslims, have hit the streets as India witnesses one of the most widespread civilian unrest of recent times.
