4 workers killed, 13 injured in leakage at GNFC's Dahej unit

Vadodara, Nov 3: Four workers were killed and 13 sustained injuries in a gas leakage at the TDI unit of Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilizers and Chemicals Ltd (GNFC) in Dahej in neighbouring Bharuch district, police said today.

Dahej Four workers were killed and as many as 13 others were injured due to leakage of phosgene gas at the TDI unit last night, Bharuch Superintendent of Police, Sandeep Singh said.

Prima facie, it looks the mishap took place due to mechanical failure, he said.

The 13 injured were admitted to a hospital in the district, out of which two have been referred to government hospital in Baroda. Three workers were discharged, Singh said.

A team of Forensic Science Laboratory will visit the site later in the day, he added.

Meanwhile, district Collector Sandeep Kumar Sagale said, "We have asked Director of Industrial Safety and Health to investigate the mishap. The management of GNFC has also appointed a technical committee to probe the matter."

Dalit family in MP forced to live in toilet

Tikamgarh, Jul 25: Promise of providing housing to the poor has been made by both Centre as well as State governments but a Dalit family in Tikamgarh district of Madhya Pradesh is forced to live in a toilet for the last several years.

However, the administration denied that the family is living in the toilet.

Maganlal Ahirwar, his wife and four children live in Keshavgarh Gram Panchayat of Mohangarh area of Tikamgarh district. All of them have been living in the toilet for four years. Ahirwar's wife Phula Devi said she told the authorities several times that her family didn't get house under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, but no one listened. The couple even got their daughter married in the same toilet.

They even got an electricity connection and gas connection under the Ujjwala scheme.

Mohangarh tehsildar Dr. Abhijeet Singh told media persons, "I got to know about the case and have asked for the report. Maganlal Ahirwar came to the office two-three days ago and denied that he was living in the toilet with his family. He has an ancestral house in the village."

He might have lived in a toilet earlier but currently he is not living there, Dr. Singh added.

Maharashtra: Three held for administering fake coronavirus vaccines

Mar 12: Three women were arrested for allegedly administrating fake coronavirus vaccines to villagers in Maharashtra's Jalna district, police said on Thursday.

The police on Wednesday arrested Beed residents Radha Ramnath Saamse, Seema Krishna Andhale and Sangeeta Rajendra Avhad, who allegedly posed as doctors and healthcare workers, an official said.

The trio met villagers of Pipalgoan in Ambad tehsil, informed them about a vaccine that could protect them from coronavirus and administered it to gullible locals, he said.

Some villagers informed Dr Mahadev Munde, a medical officer at a rural health centre, about this, after which a complaint was lodged, the official said.

Fake vaccines and bottles, which were seized from the accused, have been sent to the state health department, he said, adding that a case of cheating has been registered against the trio.
