4 young RSS workers arrested for murder of CPM activist

Kasaragod, Jul 18: Four activists of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh have been arrested in Kannur yesterday in connection with the July 11 murder of a 38-year old CPM worker over political rivalry in the politically volatile Payyannur district, police said.

A team led by Payyannur Circle Inspector V Ramesh arrested Vysakh, 21, Sukesh, 29, Prejithlal, 21, and Anoop, 21, all hailing from the district, they said.

The arrested men were among the eight persons identified as accused in the case. The four allegedly had direct involvement in the crime and the others will also be nabbed soon, police said.

CV Dhanaraj was hacked to death by a group of people, allegedly RSS activists, when he was entering his house at Payyannur. He had died while being rushed to the hospital.

In a suspected retaliatory attack hours later, 52-year-old BJP activist Ramachandran, an autorickshaw driver, was murdered by another group at his house in Vellur village in the district, police said.

No arrests had been made so far in this connection.

Kannur and some parts of the state had witnessed clashes between CPM and BJP workers after the May 16 Assembly election results.

Karnataka govt to establish three more mega energy parks

Bengaluru, Feb 17: Karnataka State Government have plans to establish three more ultra Mega Renewable Energy power parks, each of 2500 MW capacity, Karnataka Governor, Vajubhai Wala informed the joint legislative meeting, here on Monday.

Addressing a Joint Legislative meeting here, he said that the proposed Ultra Mega Renewable Energy parks would come up at Koppala, Bidar and Gadaga in the state.

Karnataka Bandh: Stones pelted on Tirupati-Mangaluru bus in Farangipet

Mangaluru, Feb 13: After pro-Kannada outfits called for a state-wide bandh today, the police are on high-alert to avoid any untoward incidents.

The dawn to dusk bandh was called demanding implementation of Sarojini Mahishi report which recommended certain percentage of jobs to Kannadigas in private & public sector companies.

There is no official holiday declared for schools and colleges. Besides, all government institutions and private establishments are open.

But, in some parts of Karnataka, autorickshaws and taxis, including Ola and Uber stayed off the roads.

Even though the bandh is unlikely to hit normal life in coastal Karnataka, stones were pelted on a Tirupati-Mangaluru bus in Farangipet.

In Mangaluru pro-CAA rally Rajnath Singh rakes up Kashmiri Pundit issue

Mangaluru, Jan 27: No power can now stop Kashmiri Pandits from going back to Kashmir, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said on Monday, forcefully defending the NDA government’s decision to reorganise Jammu and Kashmir and abrogating its special status under Article 370.

Addressing a massive pro-CAA, NRC rally organised by the Bharatiya Janata Party at Gold Finch city, Kuloor, on the outskirts of the city, the Defence minister also sent a strong message to Pakistan and said India will not let anyone live in peace if it is harmed.

"We will not touch anyone, but if someone bothers us, then we are not going to let them live in peace," he said.

Referring to the exodus of a large number of Kashmiri Pandits from the Valley in the late 1990s at the height of militancy, Singh said no power now can stop them from returning to their homes.

On the Citizenship Amendment Act, the minister said it is not a law to hurt the sentiments of any religion but to give relief to victims of religious persecution.

Mahatma Gandhi had told Nehru to give citizenship to minorities like Hindus and Sikhs if they come to India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi has fulfilled that vision by bringing in the law, Singh said.

On several non-BJP states refusing to implement the CAA, the defence minister said it it is a central law and everyone should follow it.

Accusing the Congress of misleading people on the issue, he said the party should not forget its duty towards the nation just because it is in opposition.
