43 cases filed for posting "false" content on Jaya's health

Chennai, Oct 11: Police have registered 43 cases and arrested two persons in connection with posting of "malicious and false content" on social media about the health of Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, undergoing treatment at a hospital here.

jlPolice also warned of stern action against those spreading rumours about Jayalalithaa's health. "In total, 43 cases have been registered in connection with posting of malicious and false content regarding the health condition of the Chief Minister on the social media," police said in a release.

Special teams, constituted to investigate such cases, were working to identify those who had posted such "false and malicious content" on social media, it said, adding, such "offences are liable to be punished with rigorous imprisonment for more than seven years."

"Users of social media are advised not to spread false, malicious and motivated information regarding the health condition of the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Stern action will be taken against the culprits, if any such content is noticed," police added.

Two persons have been arrested, one each from Namakkal and Madurai districts, by the Central Crime Branch of Chennai Police, following complaints made here.

A software engineer, Sathish Kumar from Devanankurichi in Namakkal "admitted" to having posted "malicious content" on Facebook, and he was arrested based on a complaint from the AIADMK IT Wing Secretary G Ramachandran, police said.

Further, one Madasamy, who operated a website and posted "malicious content" about the Chief Minister's health, was arrested from Madurai, following a complaint from a Chennai-based resident, police said.

The two were arrested yesterday under different IPC sections for "spreading rumours with intent to cause riot, creating panic among general public, causing disturbance to public order and for creating hatred between two groups," police said, adding, they were remanded to custody.

Jayalalithaa was admitted to the Apollo Hospitals on September 22 after she complained of fever and dehydration.

Visakhapatnam, Jun 13: A four-month-old baby who was on ventilator treatment for 18 days for COVID-19 was on Friday evening discharged from hospital after testing negative.

"A tribal woman of East Godavari named Laxmi was infected with COVID-19 in May, later the doctors confirmed that her four-month-old baby was also infected," said District Collector, Vinay Chand.

"The baby was shifted to Visakhapatnam VIMS hospital on May 25. She was treated for 18 days on a ventilator. Doctors again conducted baby's COVID-19 test recently, following which the reports came negative. After a health check-up, VIMS doctors discharged the baby on Friday evening," he added.

Meanwhile, 14 new COVID-19 positive cases have been reported in Visakhapatnam district on Friday, taking the total number of cases to 252 including one fatality due to the virus.

New Delhi, Jun 17: With an increase of 10,974 new cases and 2,003 deaths in the last 24 hours, India's COVID-19 count reached 3,54,065 on Wednesday while the toll due to the virus stands at 11,903.

This includes 1,55,227 active cases and 1,86,935 cured, discharged and migrated patients, according to the Union Health Ministry.

While the spike in the number of cases has stayed below the 11-thousand mark, the death toll has increased manifold today as compared to the 380 death reported on Tuesday.

Maharashtra with 1,13,445 cases continues to be the worst-affected state in the country with 50,057 active cases while 57,851 patients have been cured and discharged in the state so far. The toll due to COVID-19 has crossed the five thousand mark and reached 5,537 in the state.

It is followed by Tamil Nadu with 48,019 and the national capital with 44,688 confirmed cases.

Ayodhya, Jul 18: The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teertha Kshetra Trust has invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to lay the foundation stone of a grand Ram Temple in Ayodhya either on August 3 or 5, both auspicious dates, said a spokesperson.

PM Modi had announced the formation of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teertha Kshetra Trust on February 5.

Mahant Kamal Nayan Das, the spokesperson of Ram Mandir Trust president Nritya Gopal Das said, "We have suggested two auspicious dates -- August 3 and 5 -- for the prime minister's visit based on calculations of movements of stars and planets."

After a protracted legal tussle, the Supreme Court had on November 9 last year paved the way for the construction of a Ram Temple by a Trust at the disputed site in Ayodhya and directed the Centre to allot an alternative 5-acre plot to the Sunni Waqf Board for building a new mosque at a "prominent" place in the holy town in Uttar Pradesh.
