439 new Gram Panchayats to be formed in Karnataka ahead of 2015 polls

karnatakaBangalore, Oct 29: As many as 439 new Gram Panchayats may be formed in Karnataka by the time the government will hold elections Gram Panchayat election in the state in May 2015. With this the number of Gram Panchayats in Karnataka will go up to 6,068 from 5,629.

A committee appointed by the government to study the relevance of the Karnataka Panchayat Raj Act, 1993, headed by S.G. Nanjayyanamath, in its report submitted on Tuesday recommended for the formation of 439 new GPs. Each one of these will have an approximate population of 6,175.

Accepting the report, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said the recommendations would be implemented by the next elections to GPs, which is due in May 2015.

Another committee, headed by K. Narasimhamurty, identified over 3,351 Lambani and Banjara tandas (settlements) in the State, against 1,334 in revenue records, and recommended for converting them into revenue villages.

Bengaluru, May 22: Karnataka government on Thursday announced that weddings scheduled for May 24 and May 31 are exempted from complete lockdown on Sundays.

As per an earlier advisory issued by the State government with regard to weddings, not more than 50 guests shall be allowed and the consumption of liquor on the occasion will be prohibited.

According to the advisory, sanitisers should be provided at the entry and other appropriate places at the venue. Also, thermal screening of all persons shall be conducted at the entry of the venue. The scanner should be held 3-15 cms away from a person's forehead.

Apart from this, the venue shall be "clean and hygienic," and a "nodal person shall be identified for overseeing the arrangements and coordination at the venue."

Also, a list of attendees with contact details has to be maintained and all guests should have downloaded Aarogya Setu app.

Mangaluru, Feb 20: A wild tusker was spotted in Kukke Subrahmanya town here, in the early hours of Thursday.

Range Forest Officer (RFO), Kukke Subrahmanya Tyagaraj said that it was seen walking from Kashi Kattte in the town to Nuchila around 0530 hours without creating any havoc.

The same elephant was spotted some days ago at Harihara, a small village town near Kukke Subrahmanya.

It has been roaming around in the forests nearby for some time now. So far, it had not caused disturbance to people nor had it damaged any property, Mr. Tyagaraj said.

Kukke Subrahmanya is on the foot of the Western Ghats.

Bengaluru, Jan 9: Primary and Secondary Education Minister S Suresh Kumar on Thursday said that the Education Department would launch a helpline by March 2020 to address the complaints.

Speaking to reporters here, he said, the helpline is not only for children but also for teachers.

"Entire department including teachers and parents can make use of the opportunity”, the minister said.

“The helpline can be called for any complaint related to the Education Department. Our objective is to resolve problems within a stipulated time,” the Minister said.
