Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 3: Following an intelligence alert that a huge number of Rohingya refugees are making a beeline for Kerala, the State Police has apprehended a five-member family of the ethnic group of Myanmar's Rakhine province, at Vizhinjam here.
The police took the custody of the Rohingya family, who reached Vizhinjam from the Central Railway Station here where they arrived in Hyderabad-Trivandrum Sabari Express on Monday night, police sources said.
The family including two children were identified as Tayub (35), his wife Safia Kathum (27), their six-month old child, Tayub's brother Irshad (25) and Safia's brother Anvarsha (11).
