Shivamogga , Mar 17: Criticising the Modi-led government in the Centre, JD(S) Supremo and former prime minister H D Deve Gowda stated that the BJP-led government has only changed the names of old schemes and nothing else in the last five years.

BJP has added the term 'Pradhan Mantri' to all the schemes. "But I had not done it during my tenure as prime minister."

He was speaking at JD(S) elected representatives, leaders and workers meeting at Lagan convention hall in the city on Sunday.

Addressing the gathering, he claimed that he headed the 13 parties government in the Centre without paving the way for any communal clash.

It was purely coalition government unlike the present government in the Centre. But there was no clash between Muslims and Hindus and terror attacks. "I don't make personal attacks. But I am just sharing the facts with you."

Referring to the Godhra train burning incident in Gujarat, he said ''that many Muslims were killed, Churches and bible were burnt. But I don't make any provocative statement. I had toured Gujarat for three days in 2002. I had asked SP and deputy commissioner why they did not stop the violence. They had told that there was no instructions from higher-ups. Do we need such governance again in the country?''

Recalling the past, he said he had maintained a good rapport with neighbouring countries during his tenure as prime minister. He was the first prime minister to visit violence-hit Kashmir after a gap of ten years.

The officials of defence forces cautioned that there could be a threat to his life if he visited Kashmir. However, I had visited the valley state and had interacted with the people.

They shared that tourism must be promoted as it has been the source of livelihood for them.

Gowda also promised that he would strive for the victory of Madhu Bangarpapa in the Lok Sabha election to Shivamogga constituency as he is doing it for his grandsons in Hassan and Mandya.

Speaking to media persons, here on Sunday, he said "Madhu is like my son. So I would leave no stone unturned for his victory."

He said major leaders of Congress party including DK Shivakumar would campaign in favour of Madhu in the constituency.

Referring to confusion over Uttara Kannada Lok Sabha constituency, he said senior Congress leader R V Deshpande has spoken to him. But nothing has been finalised yet.

Mangaluru, Feb 16: Leaving spectators awestruck, Karnataka's Srinivasa Gowda ran 142.5 meters in 13.62 seconds at traditional buffalo race Kambala, following which people started comparing him to former Jamaican Sprinter Usain Bolt.

Gowda, who is from Mudbidri town, accomplished the feat during a Kambala race in a paddy field in Kadri on February 1.

"People are comparing me to Usain Bolt. He is a world champion, I am only running in a slushy paddy field," said Srinivasa Gowda.

People took to social media and drew a parallel between him and Bolt. Twitterati hailed Gowda and his accomplishment on the muddy grounds.

Kambala is an annual buffalo race held in the southwestern state of Karnataka.

Traditionally, it is sponsored by local Tuluva landlords and households in the coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi.

"I'll call Karnataka's Srinivasa Gowda for trials by top SAI Coaches. There's lack of knowledge in masses about the standards of Olympics especially in athletics where ultimate human strength & endurance are surpassed. I'll ensure that no talents in India is left out untested," Union Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju tweeted on Saturday.

Bengaluru, Jul 19: The Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister C N Ashwathnarayan on Saturday inspected the country's first modular Intensive Care Unit (ICU) containers.

A notice from the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) said that the new mobile modular container ICUs, which will be used in the fight against the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, have been created by Rinac India Limited, known for setting up sanitised operation theatres and clean rooms in hospitals.

On a pilot basis, the Deputy CM, who is also in charge of setting up COVID-care centres, said that 10 modular container ICUs will be deployed at the KC General Hospital in Malleshwaram. Each of the containers will have five beds.

Deputy CM Ashwathnarayan also said, "These mobile ICUs donated by Rinac will be useful, particularly in times of a crisis like COVID 19 or any natural calamity."

"The entry of health officials will be through an airlock, and entry of patients will be through a different door. There will be two doors for patients and can be increased if need. ICUs are fitted with cameras to monitor online from a centralized monitoring station, thereby limiting the exposure of the health personnel," the CMO informed.

The CMO further added, "the advantages of this new system are that the prefabricated modules of 5 can be shifted to any location by trailers and it is easy to deploy multiple containers to create a common facility. They are easy to clean and the airtight functionality ensures that no moisture or heat ingression happens, hence, it is easy to air-condition or ventilate."

Shivamogga, Aug 5: Karnataka Minister KS Eshwarappa on Wednesday hailed the laying of foundation stone (bhoomi pujan) for a grand Ram temple in Ayodhya and said "Kashi Vishwanath and "Krishna Janmasthan temples have to be liberated".

"It is a good day that the foundation stone for Ram Temple has been laid. A beautiful temple will come up, but there are Kashi Vishwanath and Krishna Janmasthan temples which have to be liberated," Eshwarappa said.

The minister said that there is a "sign of slavery" at Krishna temple in Mathura and Kashi Vishwanath temple in Varanasi.

"The whole nation is dreaming of Shri Krishna temple in Mathura and Kashi Vishwanath temple. I have visited the two temples.

There is a sign of slavery. Mosques are there at holy places. When I visited the place at Mathura, I witnessed the wall. When we look at the wall, we feel like we are still slaves," he said.

"While visiting Kashi, there is also a structure of slavery. Dream of Hindus is fulfilled in Ayodhya. One day, it will be fulfilled in Mathura and Kashi. Mathura Sri Krishna and Kashi Vishwanath will be freed and temple will be built," Eshwarappa added.

The Places of Worship Act, enacted in 1991, says that religious character of a place of worship existing on the August 15, 1947 shall continue to be the same as it existed on that day. The Act kept Ayodhya case out of its purview.
