60-yr-old woman raped, murdered on dist hospital premises in Belagavi

Belagavi, Jan 27: In a shocking incident, a 60-year-old destitute was raped and murdered by miscreants near the Indira Canteen building on the premises of the district hospital here. The incident came to light in the early hours of Saturday.

Police recovered the victim's body that had deep injuries on the face. The miscreants had stuffed the woman's mouth with cotton and cloth. Police suspect that the woman was dragged inside the passage of the canteen building, which is yet to be inaugurated, where they raped and murdered her.

The hospital staff found the body when they went to the building to clean the place.

Dr S T Kalasad, director of the Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences, said the woman, who was mentally unsound, had been admitted to the hospital a month ago and was later discharged. But she continued to stay there.

Police say the crime could be the handiwork of someone well acquainted with the hospital premises.

APMC police station inspector J M Kalimirchi visited the spot and the body was sent for post mortem.

Bengaluru, Feb 26: Karnataka Police and intelligence have been asked to be on alert in the wake of communal violence in Delhi and take preemptive measures, state Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai said here on Wednesday.

"We have been keeping a close watch on the developments after the Delhi incident. I have instructed my officers to be on alert and take precautionary actions rather than actions after the incidents," Bommai told media.

"The day before yesterday we had a high-level meeting...we are having a close watch," he added.

Violence erupted in Delhi on Sunday evening after groups protesting against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and those supporting it indulged in stone pelting at each other.

The confrontation soon turned communal and the violence spread to other areas of northeast Delhi including Chand Bagh, Mustafabad, Brijpuri, Shiv Vihar and Noor Ilahi on Monday and Tuesday in which at least 20 persons, including a police head constable, have died and over 200 have been injured.

Bengaluru, Jun 28: The Karnataka government on Saturday issued an order, directing private hospitals not to deny treatment to patients with coronavirus and COVID-19 like symptoms.

"Non-compliance of this order will attract punishment under sections of Disaster Management Act 2005," an order read.

Meanwhile, people coming from Maharashtra will be placed in seven-day institutional quarantine followed by seven-day home quarantine in Karnataka, the state government said.

People coming from other states will need to undergo 14-day home quarantine.

Bengaluru, May 1: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Thursday announced Rs 30 lakhs compensation for corona warriors, in case they lose lives while carrying out their duties.

"Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa has announced Rs 30 lakhs compensation for Anganwadi workers & assistants, civil workers, and police personnel who die after getting infected by COVID-19 while carrying out their duties," State Chief Minister's Office said in a statement.

According to Union Health Ministry website, a total of 557 cases of coronavirus have been reported in the state so far including 223 cured and 21 deaths.

Meanwhile, With 1,823 new cases of COVID-19 reported in the last 24 hours and 67 deaths, India's total count of coronavirus cases has gone up to 33,610, said the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Thursday.
