7 held for attacking college students

Kanhangad, Jul 11: The police here have arrested seven youths, including two juveniles, for attacking a group of college students who were waiting at a bus shelter at Padannakd locality recently.

A police team, led by Hosdurg Circle Inspector C.K. Sunil Kumar, arrested Thoufiq, Ahammed Nishan, Shamsad, C.H. Sabir, Abdul Sabith, all in their early 20s, along with two juveniles, in connection with the incident, the police official said.

The youths, rounded up under IPC provision 324 (voluntarily causing hurt with deadly weapons) were later released on bail, he said. The attack on the students of the C.K. Nair Arts and Management College at Padannakkad on the Kanhangad-Neeleshwaram National Highway stretch occurred on June 16 after the youths threatened the students of dire consequence if they remained for long in the bus waiting shelter with girl students.

In the attack that followed, at least eight students of the college suffered minor injuries forcing the police to register case. Meanwhile, Mr. Sunil Kumar said he had recently convened meetings with the school authorities, along with students of all Class X and Plus Two, falling under the Hosdurg police station limits and impressed upon them the need to refrain from being involved in unwarranted violences or resort to strike calls that stalled studies.

Bengaluru, April 3: Central Crime Branch (CCB) Bengaluru has arrested two persons for allegedly possessing illicit liquor.

The probe team also allegedly seized bottles worth Rs 1.25 lakhs from their possession on Thursday.

A case has been registered against the accused and investigation into the matter is underway, Sandeep Patil, Joint Commissioner of Police informed news agency.

Mangaluru, July 14: Melkar  Women's PU college has achieved excellent pass percentage in II PUC examinations, the results of which were announced today.

As many as 140 students of the college had appeared for second PU board exam 2020 this year. The college secured 95% results in the current academic year.

Among them 24 students passed with distinction and 94 with with first class marks.

Fathima Nisha (558 in Arts),

Zaithunnisa (561 in commerce) and Zainaba ifrath (545 in science) are the toppers of respective sections in the college.

Belagavi, Jan 16: Six Poachers were arrested in two different cases at Gollahalli forest range in Kittur section in the district on Thursday.

The arrested were identified as Bharmesh alias Bharmappa Hanumant Bhajantri, Mallesh Hanumant Bhajantri residents of Budanakatti in Bailahongal Taluk.

Another alleged accused Yuvraj Basappa Bhajantri managed to escape.
