Bengaluru, Aug 19: The Congressstrategy of raising the issue of a separate identity for the Lingayats and now assuring to induct seven rebel JD(S) MLAs may impact the Congress-JD(S) alliance in the BBMP council.

In the wake of the seven MLAs led by BZ Zameer Ahmed Khan meeting Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi to formalise their joining the party, JD(S) state president H D Kumaraswamy appears be considering pulling out of the BBMP alliance with Congress party. While confirming that JD(S) is considering pulling out its support to Congress, Kumaraswamy said it is purely local politics and nothing to do with the seven rebels.

"A section of our corporators have been complaining that all the decision making powers have been vested with Bengaluru district in-charge minister K J George and a section of the Congress MLAs. My party corporators were never given their due respect and been made dummies. With such being the case, it is quite validated for us to pull out from the alliance," Kumaraswamy.

However, Kumaraswamy said he will discuss the issue with his party corporators next week before taking a final decision. The JD(S) has 13 corporators in the BBMP.

Khan who orchestrated the alliance with the Congress claimed Kumaraswamy's moves were purely personal. "There is no local politics or concerns. It is purely based on Kumaraswamy's dislike of the Congress having invited us to join the party. Just because I and the others are planning to join the Congress, the JD(S) is trying to pull out of the alliance," he said.

Khan said he and Pulakeshinagar MLA Akhanda Srinivas Murthy have the support of four of the 13 corporators.

According to the rebel MLAs, all the seven legislators will join the Congress in December first week and have been assured of Congress tickets by Rahul himself for the 2018 elections.

Meanwhile, the shifting of loyalties by Khan and the Vokkaliga MLAs from the JD(S) to the Congress is expected to dent the JD(S) vote bank. Of the seven MLAs, three MLAs—- from Magadi (H C Balakrishna), Nagamangala (N Cheluvarayaswamy) and Srirangapatna (Ramesh BandiSiddegowda) hail from the Vokkaliga community. In Bengaluru, Khan and Murthy moving to the Congress will bolster the party in its efforts to retain power in Karnataka in 2018.
