8 dead, a dozen injured as Dharmastala bound bus falls off bridge in Hassan

Hassan, Jan 13: At least eight persons including two women died and around a dozen passengers suffered injuries when a KSRTC Airavata Bus fell off a bridge near Karekere on National Highway 75 in Hassan taluk around 3.30 am on Saturday. The bus was heading to Dharmastala from Bengaluru.

The police and ambulance reached the spot after nearby residents alerted them.

Sources said that seven people died on the spot while an injured passenger died at a hospital.

Five of the victims have been identified as Diana (22) from Mangaluru, Gangadhar N. (30) from Bengaluru and Bijo (25) from Belthangadi, besides the bus driver Lakshman and conductor Shivappa Chalavadi.

Two passengers who have been seriously injured are being treated in a private hospital in Hassan.

The reason for the accident is not known, though the police suspects that it could have been caused due to the driver’s negligence. The incident happened in Shantigrama Police Station limits.

Bengaluru, Apr 26: Three new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Karnataka in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of cases in the state to 503 as per Karnataka government.

There are 302 active COVID-19 cases in Karnataka presently, while 182 patients have been discharged, 19 deaths have been reported, state government informed.

The total number of positive coronavirus cases across the country are 26,917, including 20,177 active cases of the virus. So far, 5,913 patients have either been cured or discharged while 826 deaths have been recorded in the country, as per data provided by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Mangaluru, Jul 21: Muslims in coastal Karnataka will celebrate the Eid al-Adha on July 31, confirmed Islamic

Twaka Ahmed Musliyar, Qadhi of Managluru, has made this announcement following the crescent moon sighting in region. 

Today was the last day of Dhu al Qaeda and tomorrow (Wednesday, July 22) will be the first day of the month Dhu al Hijja.

The Eid al Adha always falls on the 10th day of Dhu al Hijja.

In most of the middle eastern countries including Saudi Arabia too Eid will be celebrated on the same day.

New Delhi, Jun 20: With the highest single-day increase of 14,516 COVID-19 cases reported in the last 24 hours, India's coronavirus count stood at 3,95,048 on Saturday.

The death toll has gone up to 12,948 in the country with 375 persons succumbing to the infection.

According to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the total number of cases includes 1,68,269 active cases, 2,13,831 cured/discharged/migrated and 12,948 deaths.

Maharashtra with 1,24,331 cases continues to be the worst-affected state in the country with 55,665 active cases while 62,773 patients have been cured and discharged in the state so far. The death toll due to COVID-19 stands at 5,893 in the state.

The number of confirmed cases in Tamil Nadu also crossed the 50 thousand mark on Saturday and reached 54,449.

The national capital is the third-worst affected by the infection in the country with the count reaching 53,116 today.
