According to sources, two children died on the spot, while five of the injured breathed their last on their way to hospital. One more student succumbed to the injuries in a hospital. An officer at the Kasturba Hospital in Manipal said that of the eight children rushed to the hospital initially, seven were brought dead.

As many as six children, of whom two are said to be critical, were receiving treatment at the Paediatric ICU of the hospital. The van driver Martin was receiving treatment at Trauma Wing of the same hospital, he said.

Superintendent of Police K. Annamalai said that as many as six children and the school teacher, Philomena, who is also the wife of the driver, are receiving treatment at the Chinmayi Hospital in Kundapur.

It is learnt that the speeding bus rammed into the van when it took a right turn to go to the school at Movady Cross about 150 metres away from the school. The private bus was coming from Trasi to Kundapur.

Even though the van's side indicators were on, the passengers in the bus said that there was poor visibility due to heavy rains in the area. The bus driver abandoned the vehicle and fled from the scene soon after the accident, Mr. Annamalai said.

“Right now, we are giving importance to post-mortem and other details. We will take tough action to see that such accidents do not recur by consulting all stakeholders,” he added.

A case has been registered at jurisdictional Gangolli police station and investigations are on.

In Mangalore people are busy over fighting for animals, religion issues etc. Nobody is interested to fight for the development of city, Safety of people and corruption issues.

Standing United is the solution for all problems in mangalore.

Why blame the bus driver?
The omni driver should be taken to task for filling the car with so many children. Parents and schools do not care how children reach the school. Its because of this overloading that when accidents happen then there are maximum fatalities.

So sad! May God grant those parents to over come with this grief.

Government is solely responsible for it....tax payers money is not being utilized for road broadening work...same roads and millions of vehicle added every year in to it and this is the out come. Everyday we hear some or other kind news of accident....

These types of acts do not fall under accident.

This is purely due to HIGH IGNORANCE, NEGLIGENCE, DISOBEDIENCE to TRAFFIC LAWS.

No sincere efforts can be seen by any Govt rulers, functionary, bureaucrats

This is worst than cure less diseases like Cancer or AIDS.
The public now should immediately make agitation that all concerned start doing stop of accidents due negligence and the same way close all liquor shops.

RTO and Traffic dept is only collecting taxes, not doing their job. If they implement existing rules and dutiful, such accidents can be avoided. Transport Minister and RTO fully responsible for the recent increase of accidents.
May God give enough patience to concerned families and rest in peace departed souls.

Bengaluru, Mar 16: A 23-year-old mobile app developer was arrested on Saturday for allegedly forging the signature of Infosys Foundation chairperson Sudha Murty to rope in Telugu actor Vijay Devarakonda as an app’s ambassador.

The arrest of Laveti Sai Krishna alias Krishna ML, a resident of Hyderabad, comes a year after the case was registered. Jayanagar police registered a case against Krishna on February 26, 2019 based on a complaint filed by Lt Col (retd) M Ramesh, representative of Infosys Foundation. The complaint was filed after the forged letter didn’t reach Devarakonda and came back to Infosys Foundation instead.

App developer is a B.Pharma holder

“We conducted an investigation and traced the app designer. We caught him and based on information provided by him, we learnt that Krishna was the brain behind the forged signature,” a senior police officer said.

Krishna confessed that he developed a mobile app — ‘Offer nearby’ — and planned to launch it in a big way. He wanted Telugu actor Vijay Devarakonda to be the app’s brand ambassador and tried contacting him. Krishna, however, was unable to meet Vijay.

Krishna then thought he could easily reach the actor if he sent a recommendation letter in the name of Sudha Murty.

“He forged the letterhead of Infosys Foundation and Sudha Murty’s signature. We are verifying his antecedents to know if he committed any other offence earlier,” said Rohini Sepat-Katoch, DCP (south). Rohini said Krishna is a B.Pharma holder and worked with an advertisement firm. Later, he planned to develop an app that provides details of offers for retail customers. He floated Laveti Technologies, and with help from a friend, developed ‘Offer nearby’.

As per the complaint, Krishna created a fake letterhead in the name of Sudha Murty and wrote to Devarakonda, asking him to become the brand ambassador/ partner for his mobile app. Krishna sent it through SpeedPost mentioning the sender’s address as Infosys Foundation. Krishna’s game was up when the letter, which wasn’t delivered to Devarakonda, came back to Infosys Foundation.

Bengaluru, Jul 16: Former Prime Minister and JDS supremo H D Devegowda on Thursday gave a clarion call to party workers to take steps to strengthen the party from the grossroots level and to 'expose the failures' and 'anti-people' policies of BJP government both at the Centre and State.

In an open letter to the workers here, he alleged that the urgent need is to create awareness among the people about failure of the governments which have brought in policies which are deterrent to the poor and downtrodden.

BJP government headed by Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa in Karnataka has come up with an amendment to the Land Reforms Act,1961, which is 'against' interests of the small and medium farmers as even a non-agriculturist can purchase agriculture land, thus giving an opportunity to the rich people to 'exploit' illiterate farmers and purchase their land and use it for some other purpose after some time.
