8-year-old Indian dies after falling out of car in UAE

Dubai, Jan 12: An 8-year-old Indian boy died after falling out of the car in which he was travelling with his family in United Arab Emirates.

vismayaA grade three student of the Indian School in Ras Al Khaimah (RAK), Vismaya Chandran died on Sunday night after falling through the window of the vehicle which was being driven by his father.

The family members were on their way to a picnic at Jebel Jais.

The accident happened after 4.30pm and the boy was rushed to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The body is now in the Al Saif Hospital in Ras Al Khaimah and will be repatriated to India.

Vismaya’s father Sajeesh Chandran said he was driving when the accident happened near Al Rams, about four kilometres away from Ras Al Khaimah.

“It skidded off the road and stopped in the middle of rocks and rubble. The glass window was locked, but somehow it opened and he fell out.

“He had a serious head injury and died 45 minutes after reaching the hospital.”

The boy’s mother Deepa and younger sister Thanmaya were also in the vehicle.

“We are all sad that one of our best students died. We reopened school on Sunday, but Vismaya was absent,” said Mohammed Ali, Principal, Indian School, Ras Al Khaiamah.

“The school called for a special morning assembly to condole his sad demise,” he said.

Mangaluru, Feb 6: Over 1500 students and teachers are expected to take part in a three-day State-level conference of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishat (ABVP) starting on Friday here.

Reception Committee chairman K.C. Nayak and secretary Shantharama Shetty told reporters here today that Deputy Chief Minister C.N. Ashwath Narayana would inaugurate the conference at the Kudmul Ranga Rao Town Hall.

The former ABVP national president and former Nagaland Governor P.B. Acharya would preside over the programme that would be attended by Mangalore University Vice-Chancellor P.S. Yadapadithaya, ABVP national organising secretary Ashish Chauhan and others.

Bengaluru, Jun 15: After a three-month delay, seven-time MLA and former state minister DK Shivakumar, who has been appointed as the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president, will take charge on July 2 at a simple function at the new party office here.

Mr Shivakumar was appointed as KPCC president on March 11.

Party sources said on Monday that Shivakumar plans to take charge of the party through a “pratijna dina” (pledge day) ceremony that would be telecast live to 7,800 locations across the state and over 10 lakh party workers are expected to attend it virtually.

Mangaluru, July 15: Moulana Iqbal Mulla Nadvi, an acclaimed Islamic scholar and Qadhi (Khazi) of Bhatkal, passed away at a private hospital in Mangaluru. 

The elderly scholar was critically for past few weeks. 

He had served as the president of Jamia Islamia Bhatkal for several years.

He was known among Islamic scholars of Karnataka for his boldness, sincerity and wisdom.

Last rites are expected to be held in Bhatkal.
