90% of IAS officers don't work, hold up files, alleges Kejriwal

New Delhi, Oct 17: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has alleged that ninety percent of the IAS officers "do not work" and said at times he feels development was "stuck up at the Secretariat".

On the bureaucrats' alleged "objection" to the regularisation of contractual workers, Kejriwal said if Delhi had full statehood, his government would regularise all the contractual employees within 24 hours.

Kejriwal made these remarks at a function organised to felicitate pensioners of the Power department on Monday.

Speaking during the event, Kejiwal alleged that the IAS officers "obstructed files" of development works.

"Ninty percent of them (IAS officers) do not work and hold up the files," he said, citing his proposal for the regularisation of contractual employees, as chairman of the New Delhi Municipal Corporation.

"When I proposed regularisation of contractual employees, all the officers opposed me. They said if regularised they won't work. I said, if this is the logic then all the IAS officers should be ad-hoc because they do not work," he added.

Referring to the cashless health service for the Power department pensioners, the Chief Minister said that he has learnt that officers were causing obstacles for the scheme.

"I sometimes feel that the development was stuck up at the Secretariat," he said.

Kejriwal said the labour department has been asked to prepare a notification for regularising contractual employees.

"I have asked the Labour department to sent the draft notification for LG's approval. If he obstructs it, they (contractual employees) will give him a befitting reply (Khaat Khadi Kar denge)," Kejriwal said.

Talking about his government's proposal to regularise guest teachers, passed recently in Delhi Assembly, he said that the matter was now in Lieutenant Governor's (LG) hands.

"We have sent the file to the LG. Now, it is between the LG and the guest teachers and they can settle it out themselves," he said.

Kejriwal also said that his government was working to implement equal pay for equal work.

"We are working on it and my request to you is that if he (LG) causes any obstacles in it, you will need to sort it out," the Chief Minister said.

Kochi, Feb 9: P Parameswaran, one of the senior-most "pracharaks" of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and former leader of the erstwhile Bharatiya Jana Sangh, died at 91 in the early hours today, Sangh Parivar sources said.

The founder director of the Bharatheeya Vichara Kendram died at 12.10 am while undergoing Ayurvedic treatment at Ottappalam in Kerala's Palakkad district, according to sources.

P Parameswaran, who had worked with leaders like Deendayal Upadhyaya, Atal Bihari Vajpayee and LK Advani during the Jana Sangh days, was honoured with Padma Vibhushan, the country's second highest civilian award in 2018 and Padma Shri in 2004.

Fondly called as Parameswar ji by Sangh Parivar and Bharatiya Janata Party leaders, he was a prolific writer, poet, researcher and a widely-respected RSS ideologue. He was the Bharatiya Jana Sangh's secretary (1967-1971) and vice0president (1971-1977), as well as the director of the Deendayal Research Institute (1977-1982) in New Delhi.

Born in 1927 in Muhamma, Alappuzha district, he joined the RSS during his student days.

His body will be brought to the RSS headquarters in Kochi this morning for people to pay their last respects. The cremation will be held in Muhamma in the evening, sources said.

During the days of Emergency between 1975-77, he courted arrest as part of the all India Satyagraha against it and was jailed for 16 months.

Bharatheeya Vichara Kendram was established by P Parameswaran in 1982 "to promote nationalist thoughts among Keralites".

New Delhi, Mar 26: Ujjwala beneficiaries will get free gas cylinders (LPG cylinders) in the next three months, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced on Thursday. Addressing a press briefing amid coronavirus pandemic, the finance minister said the announcement is set to benefit 8.3 crore BPL families.

Thiruvananthapuram, Apr 9: The Kerala government has set up five COVID-19 helpdesks for non-resident Keralites in countries which have a substantial number of Pravasi Malayalis.

Addressing a press conference here Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday said: "In order to address the concerns and issues faced by the non-resident Keralites, we have set up five dedicated COVID helpdesks in countries where we have a substantial number of Pravasi Malayalis."

The helpdesks started by Norka Roots will be managed locally by persons and voluntary organisations active among non-resident Keralites. The Kerala government has requested the Indian Ambassadors in various places to cooperate with these helpdesks.

The Chief Minister also informed that online medical services would be made available to the non-resident Keralites through the Norka Roots website.

"Pravasi Malayalis can consult prominent doctors in Kerala by audio or video calls through the website, with prior registration. The services of various speciality doctors will be available from 2 pm to 6 pm IST," he said.

Currently, registration for the Norka Pravasi ID card is only available for the Malayali expatriates residing or working abroad for a period of not less than six months. "Now students from Kerala studying abroad can also avail this facility. The overseas student registration service would enable them to get Insurance benefits and discounts on flight tickets. This registration will be mandatory for all students presently studying abroad as well as for those going abroad, from now on," Vijayan said.

The Pravasi ID card is a multi-purpose photo identity card that entitles every non-resident Keralite to avail all services and facilities offered by Norka Root. The card comes with an add-on Personal Accident Insurance (PAI) coverage. Two prominent airlines are offering a discount on the base fare for air tickets booked by Norka Id card holders.
