AAP doesn't believe in coalition, ready for re-poll in Delhi: Kejriwal

New Delhi, Dec 9: Riding high on its success in the Delhi Assembly elections, the Aam Aadmi Party has made it clear that it will not go for a coalition and is ready for re-election.

AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal said that his party does not believe in coalition politics.

"We will not give support to either the Congress or the BJP. We will form the government only when we have the numbers, we don't believe in coalition politics. It's not a bad thing to have a re-poll, we're ready for it," Kejriwal said.

"AAP members have been approached by BJP, none of them have yielded," Kejriwal added.

After the spectacular debut of AAP in the Delhi Assembly elections, questions are being raised as to whether the party can repeat such a stint in the Lok Sabha elections as well. Kejriwal said his party will decide on fighting the Lok Sabha elections if people want.

"We have not yet decided on contesting the Lok Sabha elections. We are widening our reach and AAP has units in over 350 districts. We will decide on contesting the 2014 Lok Sabha elections if people want," Kejriwal said. "Some day or the other, we eventually have to fight the Lok Sabha elections, will decide if we should do that in 2014," he added.

Delhi seems to be headed for a re-elections with both the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Aam Aadmi Party unwilling to form a government without getting the numbers. Both the parties say they will sit in the Opposition.

The AAP core group met at Arvind Kejriwal's residence on Monday and decided that it will sit in the Opposition as it is the second largest party in the Delhi Assembly and cannot get majority. The BJP, which has emerged as the single largest party, is short of majority by three MLAs. In such a situation, the party says it will sit in the Opposition.

AAP has also rejected former IPS officer Kiran Bedi's proposal to join hands with the BJP to form the government in Delhi. It now remains to be seen as to which way Delhi goes with AAP refusing to go for coalition.

India sees spike of 22,752 COVID-19 cases, tally reaches 7,42,417

New Delhi, Jul 8: India has reported a spike of 22,752 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the country's coronavirus tally to 7,42,417 on Wednesday, informed the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Out of the total cases reported, 4,56,830 patients have been cured/discharged from the disease while one patient has been migrated, the Health Ministry informed.

It added that there are 2,64,944 active cases in the country.

482 deaths reported in the last 24 hours due to COVID-19 in the country, taking India's death toll to 20,642.

According to the Union Health Ministry, Maharashtra continues to be the worst affected state reporting 2,17,121 coronavirus cases and 9,250 fatalities.

Tamil Nadu -- the second worst-affected state from COVID-19 -- has a total of 1,18,594 cases and 1,636 deaths due to coronavirus.

While Delhi has a total of 1,02,831 COVID-19 cases including 3,165 deaths.

The Indian Council of Medical Research on Wednesday informed that a total of 1,04,73,771 samples tested for COVID-19 up to July 7. Of these, 2,62,679 samples were tested on Tuesday.

CM Yogi’s drive to identify CAA beneficiaries runs into problems

Lucknow, Jan 16: The drive initiated by Uttar Pradesh's Yogi Adityanath government to identify non-Muslim immigrants in the state seems to have run into rough weather.

In Pilibhit, where the maximum number of about 35,000 illegal immigrants has been identified, it has now been found that information is being sought by the state government on an unverified document. A large number of families from Bangladesh settled here several decades ago.

The survey began last month even before the bill was notified. Moreover, the feedback email on the questionnaire is a Gmail ID -- [email protected] -- which is not a government server.

It is not known how the state government is drawing up the lists without having the verification criteria.

After the report was put up by a news website, Home Department officials feigned complete ignorance about the issue.

A spokesman said: "This was an unofficial and preliminary exercise to assess the number of illegal migrants in the state. The document is meant to collect basic beneficiary information. No list of potential beneficiaries has yet been sent to Delhi."

The document has eight columns asking for name, father's name, place of stay in India, and where did they come from and when. It does not mention any requirement of proof, or documents.

It also asks for a description of the kind of atrocities they faced, presumably in their home country.

The District Magistrate of Pilibhit claimed they are checking documents of the refugees, but denied any knowledge of the unsigned document.

The CAA is meant to benefit Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and Christians from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan who came to India before December 31, 2014. The statement of purposes of the Act adds that it is meant to benefit those fleeing religious persecution from the above countries.

Yogi is unfit to be CM as he does not know what he speaks and does. Its unfortunate that we are such idiot as CM. Instead of CAA we need PAA (Politician amendment act). We need age limit of politicians to be fixed to 65 or maximum 70 years and any one coming in politics to be free from any bad doing. No rapists/murders/looters/decoits should be allowed to contest election. Presently 90 percent of the politicians have bad record. Few are rapists, murders, having spent jail term etc.

New Delhi, Mar 27: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday described British premier Boris Johnson as a "fighter" and hoped he recovers from coronavirus infection.

"Dear PM @BorisJohnson, you're a fighter and you will overcome this challenge as well," Modi tweeted.

He said he prays for his good health and extends best wishes in ensuring a healthy UK.

Johnson said on Friday that he has tested positive for coronavirus after experiencing mild symptoms and is now self-isolating at 10 Downing Street in line with the medical advice.

"I am now self-isolating, but I will continue to lead the government's response via video-conference as we fight this virus," he said.
