New Delhi, Apr 24: The AAP government on Saturday filed a criminal complaint at the Patiala House District Courts here seeking registration of a criminal case against three television news channels for allegedly airing doctored videos of the February 9 protests on the JNU campus.

kejriAccording to a source, the airing of the videos could have been detrimental to law and order and could have triggered a riot on communal lines – an argument which forms the core of the 226-page complaint filed by the legal team of the Delhi government.

The government had recently decided to initiate proceedings through the court against the news channels on the basis of the findings of a magisterial probe, which had concluded that they had aired allegedly doctored videos of a controversial event.

The complaint was filed under Section 200 of Criminal Procedure Code, seeking cognisance of the offences such as misrepresentation, concealing facts and criminal conspiracy under the IPC and Information Technology Act.

The matter has been listed for hearing by a Metropolitan Magistrate in Patiala House Courts on Monday.

The probe, conducted by New Delhi District Magistrate Sanjay Kumar, did not find any evidence of JNU Students' Union president Kanhaiya Kumar raising anti-India slogans during the February 9 event, the allegation based on which he was slapped with sedition charges.

Bengaluru, Feb 10: A group of women on Monday started a protest against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), National Register of Citizens (NRC), and National Population Register (NPR) here near Bilal Masjid.

Members of the transgender community on Sunday had also taken out a march here to express solidarity with those protesting against CAA, NRC, and NPR.

The newly enacted law is facing stiff opposition across the country with some states including Kerala, West Bengal, Rajasthan and Punjab refusing to implement it. Rajasthan, Kerala, and Punjab have also passed resolutions against the amended citizenship law in their legislative Assemblies.

The CAA grants citizenship to Hindu, Sikh, Jain, Parsi, Buddhist, and Christian refugees from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh, who came to India on or before December 31, 2014.

Dubai, May 18: An Indian working in a mining company in the UAE has become the latest expatriate to have lost his job for hate-filled social media posts targeting Islam and Muslims.

Brajkishore Gupta was fired without notice for calling Indian Muslims 'coronavirus spreaders' and hailing the Delhi violence as 'divine justice' in his Facebook posts.

Gupta, who is from Chapra, Bihar, was employed by Stevin Rock, a mining company headquartered in Ras Al Khaimah city.

"This isolated incident involving a junior employee was investigated and dealt with immediately resulting in the termination without notice of this person's employment with Stevin Rock," said the company's business development and exploration manager Jean-Francois Milian.

"Our company policy supports the direction of the UAE government in promoting tolerance and equality and strongly renouncing racism and discrimination and we have sent communications to all of our employees irrespective of their religious or ethnic background reminding them that any such behaviour is unacceptable and will lead to immediate dismissal," Milian was quoted as saying in the report.

Three Indians based in the UAE were either fired or suspended from their jobs for "Islamophobic" posts on social media early this month.

On April 20, India's ambassador to the UAE Pavan Kapoor had warned Indian expatriates against such behaviour.

"India and UAE share the value of non-discrimination on any grounds. Discrimination is against our moral fabric and the Rule of law. Indian nationals in the UAE should always remember this," he said in a tweet.

Last month, Sharjah-based businessman Sohan Roy had to apologise for "unintentionally hurting religious sentiments" through his poem, which alluded to a Muslim religious group.

In March, chef Trilok Singh was fired from a restaurant in Dubai for an online threat against a student in Delhi over her views on the Citizenship Amendment Act.
