AAP legislator among 3 held for assault

August 22, 2015

New Delhi, Aug 22: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Surinder Singh on Friday has been arrested by the Delhi Police in connection with an assault case on a NDMC worker.

SurinderSingh was arrested this evening, along with his driver Pankaj and assistant Praveen, when he was called for questioning by Delhi Police.

"The MLA has been arrested for assaulting a public servant and stopping him from discharging his duty and sections of SC/ST Act. He was taken to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital for medical examination," said a senior Delhi Police official.

Singh is the third AAP MLA who has been arrested in the last two months. Former Delhi Law Minister Jitendra Singh Tomar was held in a fake educational degree case in June and Kondli legislator Manoj Kumar was apprehended in July.

On August 4, Surinder Singh was booked for allegedly beating and manhandling an NDMC worker in Tughlaq road area when a team of NDMC officials was doing routine check and had apprehended an e-rickshaw driver to check his documents.

"Sanitary Inspector RJ Meena had complained to police alleging that beldar Mukesh was beaten and manhandled by Surinder Singh when the team had apprehended an e-rickshaw driver to check his documents," a senior police official said.

The MLA from Delhi Cantt constituency is also an NDMC member.

Reacting sharply to the arrest of Surinder Singh, AAP leader Ashutosh alleged the Centre was protecting the corrupt in the CNG fitness case while it is resorting to arrest "patriot" Surinder Singh, a former NSG commando, who faced bullets from terrorists during the 26/11 attack in Mumbai.
