AAP Ministers, LG office in war of words after fax to Sisodia

September 17, 2016

New Delhi, Sep 17: AAP ministers Satyendar Jain and Kapil Mishra today went to meet Lt Governor Najeeb Jung at his office following his fax to Deputy CM Manish Sisodia to return from Finland, but the meeting did not materialise as Jung was not in his office, triggering a fresh spat between the two sides.

"It appears he is not in a mood to work today," Mishra said taking a jibe at Jung. But the LG office retorted that it was operational on all seven days of the week and the ministers did not seek prior appointment even as it accused the AAP government of politicising the issue when the city was grappling with a health crisis.

Jung yesterday asked Sisodia to return to Delhi immediately from Finland, where he was on a study tour, in view of sudden spurt in Dengue and Chikungunya cases in the national capital.

The ministers waited outside the LG office and said that no appointment was sought to meet the Lt Governor since he had sent an "urgent" fax to the Deputy Chief Minister and they thought that Jung must have something important to talk about. "The LG has sent an urgent fax to Deputy CM Sisodia so we thought there may be some emergency and we both came to meet him but he is not in the office.

"We were told that it's off today and he does not sit in the office. We called him but he is also not at his home. It appears he is not in a mood to work today," Mishra said. Hitting back, the LG office said that the Lt Governor came to know of their visit only through media.

"Secretary to the Lt Governor met the Ministers since the Lt Governor's office is operational on all days of the week. However, they neither submitted any letter nor gave any representation to the Lt Governor," the LG office said in a statement. Mishra, however, said that since Delhi is grappling with Dengue and Chikungunya they did not wait for an appointment to meet Jung.

"We thought perhaps Jung Saheb has found some very good idea to fight the diseases that he wanted to share with Sisodia. So we came running to meet him as we are working on Saturday and Sunday also."

The Lt Governor's office said that it is "regrettable" that at a time when Delhi is facing such a serious public health crisis, the elected government is choosing to "politicize" the issue instead of providing succour to the public.

"The Lt Governor's office is keeping a close watch on the health situation in Delhi and is getting regular updates on the situation from the Chief Secretary and Secretary (Health)," the LG office said.

Jain said that he talked to Jung over phone but he was not available for meeting. "I called on his number but he is not available. When I asked him about his fax to Sisodia, he said he did not want to talk about it," Jain said.

"Went to LG office. Asked on phone if anything urgent as he faxed yty to recall deputy CM. Ans: nothing urgent to discuss, no time today," Jain tweeted. Sisodia, who also hold the education portfolio, is in Finland along with his officers, is in Finland to study the education system of that country.

Refuting the allegation of the Opposition that he is "holidaying" in Finland, Sisodia yesterday said it was not a "sin" to study the schooling system of other countries to fix the problems in Delhi's education system.

New Delhi, Jun 11: Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot has obliquely hinted that the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is pulling out all stops to destabilise the Congress-led government by luring some of the ruling party’s members of the legislative assembly (MLAs) with Rs 25 crore each.

He alleged that the BJP’s plan is similar to that of toppling the erstwhile Kamal Nath-led government in Madhya Pradesh (MP) and some of his party lawmakers have been offered Rs 10 crore each in advance of the promised sum of Rs 25 crore.

The CM made these allegations while speaking to media persons late on Wednesday night, when the Congress took its 107 party MLAs and 13 independent lawmakers to a resort located on the outskirts of Jaipur for a meeting ahead of the upcoming Rajya Sabha polls for three seats from the desert state slated to be held on June 19.

The 120 MLAs will be shifted to the resort on Thursday.

“Our MLAs are intelligent, alert, and united. Rajasthan is the only state in the country, where 13 independent MLAs supported our government for neither exchange of any money nor post. However, the condition on which our MLAs left the party for the BJP in MP is not good,” Gehlot said.

Rajasthan government’s chief whip Mahesh Joshi in a complaint to the director-general, anti-corruption bureau (ACB), has alleged attempts to poach Congress MLAs and the independent lawmakers, who are supporting the Gehlot-led government.

“Attempts are being made to destabilise the government in Rajasthan on the lines of Karnataka and MP,” Joshi alleged.

Gehlot said that he would hold another round of meeting with the 107 Congress and 13 independent MLAs on Thursday.

The CM also targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging that the Upper House elections were postponed under pressure because the BJP could not poach an adequate number of MLAs in Rajasthan and Gujarat.

He blamed the saffron party for its lack of faith in democracy, as it has ensured the resignation of eight Congress MLAs in Gujarat since March, including three earlier this week.

Mukesh Pareek, BJP’s state spokesperson, refuted the allegations levelled by CM Gehlot against his party and asked the ruling Congress to give evidence of alleged poaching of its and independent lawmakers.

‘The Congress has failed to manage its own house. There is growing resentment in the party’s rank and file over its failed national leadership,” Pareek alleged.

Jaipur, Jun 17: Police have registered an FIR against a television news anchor for allegedly making an objectionable comment on Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti.

The FIR was lodged after a complaint against News 18 India anchor Amish Devgan by a "khadim" at the saint's dargah in Ajmer on Tuesday night.

"He is running a communal agenda against the Muslim community. The dargah of Sufi saint is visited not only by Muslims but by people of all religions and his comments have hurt the sentiments of all," Syed Sarwar Chishti said.

The anchor later apologised on Twitter. "In 1 of my debates, I inadvertently referred to 'Khilji' as Chishti. I sincerely apologise for this grave error and the anguish it may hv caused to followers of the Sufi saint Moinuddin Chishti, whom I revere. I have in the past sought blessings at his dargah. I regret this error," Devgan tweeted.

Dargah SHO Hem Raj said a case was registered under sections of the Indian Penal Code and the IT Act for outraging religious feelings.

Another complaint was lodged by activist Muzaffar Bharti at the office of Ajmer's Superintendent of Police.

He accused Devgan and his team of trying to incite riots through "misleading and objectionable debates on communal issues".

He said Devgan made highly objectionable remarks on the revered saint, which shall not be tolerated.

"The dargah of Moinuddin Chishti is the symbol of brotherhood and harmony and crores of people of different religions all over the world have deep love and faith in the saint," he said.
