AAP protests near Sushma Swaraj's house

New Delhi, Jun 20: Around 150 members of the Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) Youth Wing protested near External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj's residence here demanding her resignation for helping former IPL chief Lalit Modi with travel documents, officials said.

The protesters, headed by AAP's Youth Wing Delhi president Ankush Garg, gathered outside the minister's house in New Delhi area around 10 a.m. and raised slogans demanding her resignation for helping Modi procure documents to travel to Portugal last year for his cancer-stricken wife's treatment.

Police said they had deputed adequate force and would detain the protesters if they try to break law and order. "As the protest is peaceful as of now, we are trying to negotiate with the protesters to stop their agitation. However, if needed, they will be detained," a police officer said.

‘May this festival bring peace’: Amit Shah extends Eid al-Fitr greetings

New Delhi, May 25: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday extended his greetings on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr and wished that the festival will bring peace and happiness to all.

"Extend my warm greetings on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr. May this festival bring peace and happiness in everyone's life," Shah tweeted.

Eid-ul-Fitr is being celebrated across the country on Monday.

Arvind Kejriwal takes oath as Delhi Chief Minister

New Delhi, Feb 16: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal was on Sunday sworn-in as the Chief Minister of Delhi for the third time in a row at Ramlila Maidan here, after his party registered a massive victory in the recently concluded Delhi Assembly polls.

Kejriwal was administered the oath of office and secrecy by Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal.

The sprawling Ramlila Maidan reverberated with sounds of thousands of people cheering for the AAP leader.

Kejriwal who received a hero's welcome here had extended an invitation to the people of Delhi urging them to attend the swearing-in ceremony to witness "the son of Delhi" taking oath today.

The AAP nearly repeated its 2015 performance in the elections, sweeping the Assembly polls winning 62 seats in the 70-member Assembly, in the face of a high-voltage campaign by the BJP, which fielded a battery of Union Ministers and Chief Ministers in its electioneering spearheaded by Home Minister Amit Shah.

With over 11,000 COVID cases, tally in India rises to 308,993

New Delhi, Jun 13: India's COVID-19 tally on Saturday witnessed its highest-ever spike of 11,458 cases, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW).

A total of 386 deaths have been reported due to the infection during the last 24 hours.

The total number of coronavirus cases in the country now stands at 3,08,993 including 1,45,779 active cases 1,54,330 cured/discharged/migrated and 8,884 deaths.

COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra continue to soar with the number reaching 101141. Tamil Nadu's coronavirus count stands at 40,698 while cases in Delhi reached 36,824.
