January 24, 2014

aap_policeNew Delhi, Jan 24: Delhi Police today suspended its three personnel pending inquiry after Aam Aadmi Party released a video in which the cops were seen beating a man, close on the heels of the ruling party's confrontation with the Centre over functioning of the force.

The action against the three constables -- Jitendra, Arvid and Saurabh -- came hours after AAP posted the video on its Facebook page.

In the video, the policemen were seen beating a man with stick and taking his wallet. AAP said the video was shot on January 12. In a message posted along with the video, the AAP said the video not only "shows Delhi police's inhuman behavior but also the urban legend of police extorting money".

The posting of the video came days after Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal held a two-day dharna outside Rail Bhavan seeking action against policemen in three different cases.

"This video was shot by a vigilante near Lal Quila," the party said and asked whether Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde would take action against the policemen involved.

In an environment where fear and misinformation pose a bigger danger than the virus itself, community workers have a key role to play in educating people about the dangers of COVID-19 and the manner in which it is transmitted, Gandhi said.

"As a nation, we owe them and their families a huge debt of gratitude for the tremendous personal sacrifices each of them is making. I hope that when this crisis is over their exemplary service will serve as a catalyst for deep-rooted change in their conditions of work," he said.

Gandhi said he salutes each and every community worker for their service to the nation and prays that they and their families will remain safe during this pandemic.
