Aarushi Talwar's Family to appeal against court verdict

Appeal_against_courtNew Delhi, Nov 26: Expressing dissatisfaction over the judgment of the special CBI court in the Aarushi-Hemraj murder case, the Talwar family and their lawyer said on Monday that they would appeal to a higher court.

“We are not going to give up. It is extremely prejudiced. Minds are already made. If this is the way trials are conducted, then there is no need to have trials. Nobody wants to look at the evidence.

CBI is a prestigious organisation and everybody believes in it. But nobody listens to us. But it is like 100 lies should not make truth. But unfortunately in our case, it has become a truth. There are layers and layers of lies,” said Dr Vandana Talwar, wife of Rajesh’s brother Dinesh, said.

Rajesh Talwar’s brother Dinesh said, “The CBI themselves said in the court that servants were involved in the crime. But then the agency did not provide any information to the court... So how do you expect the court to decide? We did not get justice today but we will appeal in the higher court.

The higher judiciary will correct this injustice.”

The Talwar couple’s lawyer Rebecca John said the appellate court will surely find that the two were not involved in the crime. “It is very unfortunate day. We have the right to challenge and verdict will be challenged in the higher court. When the verdict will be challenged in an appellate court, I am sure the court will have a categorical conclusion that the parents have not committed the crime,” she said.

Meanwhile, CBI lawyer RK Saini said the main thrust of the case was based on circumstantial evidence which pointed at the Talwars’ involvement in the murder case. “The Court has seen all the circumstantial evidence and agreed on it. The main thrust of the case was based on circumstantial evidence. I have done my duty. There is no question of victory or loss,” he said.

New Delhi, Feb 11: AAP leader Sanjay Singh on Tuesday said his party will register a "massive win" in the high-stakes Delhi Assembly election, counting for which began amid tight security at various centres set up to carry out the exercise.

Initial trends suggested the ruling Aam Aadmi Party marching ahead, but the Bharatiya Janata Party leaders maintained that their party would win.

The counting began at 8 am and will be held in multiple rounds, Delhi Chief Electoral Officer Ranbir Singh said.

New Delhi, Jun 22: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday left for a three-day visit to Russia. Singh is likely to discuss the India-Russia defence and strategic partnership during the visit and also attend a military parade in Moscow to mark the 75th anniversary of the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany in the Second World War.

The visit comes days after the violent face-off with China in which 20 Indian Armymen were killed in Galwan valley in Ladakh.

"Leaving for Moscow on a three day visit. The visit to Russia will give me an opportunity to hold talks on ways to further deepen the India-Russia defence and strategic partnership. I shall also be attending the 75th Victory Day Parade in Moscow," the Defence Minister tweeted.

Defence Secretary Ajay Kumar is also accompanying the minister.

Mumbai, Mar 12: In what appears to be the worst trading session in the Indian stock markets, the benchmark BSE Sensex crashed over 2900 points to end below the 33,000-mark.

The Sensex crashed 2,919.26 points to end at 32,778.14. So far it has touched an intra-day low of 32,530.05 points.

The Nifty50 on the National Stock Exchange also lost nearly 850 points so far. It plunged 868.25 points to 9,590.15.

The plunge was in line with the global markets as all Asian indices also traded in the red after the World Health Organization (WHO) declared coronavirus a global pandemic following which the Dow Jones Industrial Average also slumped significantly on Wednesday.

The bear run in both the global and domestic markets has continued off late on concerns of the coronavirus outbreak severely impacting the global economy. It has also raised calls for government intervention and support.

Central banks in several countries, including the US Federal Reserve have announced emergency rate cuts to boost sentiments. However, the concerns have only deepened in the past few days as the number of COVID-19 cases across the world has increased.

Further, following the rout in the global markets oil prices also fell on Thursday with the Brent crude trading around $34 per barrel.

The Indian rupee also felt the pressure and touched a 17-month low of 74.34 per dollar in its initial trade.
