ABC drops Priyanka Chopra’s ‘Quantico’

Los Angeles, May 12: ABC network has decided to drop Priyanka Chopra-starrer “Quantico” and Kiefer Sutherland’s “Designated Survivor”.

“Quantico” features Priyanka as FBI recruit framed for a bombing attack. The show’s current season, which premièred last month, will continue to air through mid-July, reported Variety.

Three episodes into its third season, “Quantico” is averaging a 0.5 rating in the 18-49 demo and 2.3 million total viewers, according to Nielsen live-plus-same day numbers.

“Designated Survivor”, which revolves around a low-level Cabinet member who becomes President after a terrorist attack on the Capitol, has been cancelled after two seasons. Though the show has been profitable for ABC, it was a difficult series to make logistically as production took place in Toronto, the writers room is in Los Angeles, and creator David Guggenheim is based in New York.

Apart from “Qunatico” and “Designated Survivor”, ABC has also cancelled Zach Braff’s comedy series “Alex, Inc”, “The Crossing”, an acclaimed allegorical sci-fi drama series that’s only aired six episodes, “Kevin (Probably) Saves the World”, and “The Mayor”.

The network, however, renewed “The Goldbergs”, “The Good Doctor”, “Grey’s Anatomy”, “Modern Family”, “Speechless” and “Roseanne”.

Jan 27: Bidders for Air India Ltd. will need to absorb $3.26 billion of its debt, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s administration tries once again to sell the national carrier.

The entire company will be sold but effective control needs to stay with Indian nationals, according to preliminary terms published Monday. Bids are invited by March 17 with Ernst & Young LLP India as transaction adviser.

Air India, which started in 1932 as a mail carrier before winning commercial popularity, saw its fortunes fade with the emergence of cutthroat low-cost competition. The state-run airline has been unprofitable for over a decade and is saddled with more than $8 billion in debt.

Indian regulations allow a foreign airline to buy as much as 49% of a local carrier, while overseas investors other than airlines can buy an entire carrier. The government didn’t find a single bidder when it tried to sell Air India in 2018.

Mumbai, Jul 28: Megastar Amitabh Bachchan says he was left in tears as his daughter-in-law, actor Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and granddaughter Aaradhya Bachchan were discharged from hospital after testing negative for coronavirus.

Aishwarya and her eight-year-old daughter, who were shifted to the isolation ward of Nanavati Hospital on July 17, were discharged on Monday.

Amitabh, 77, and his actor-son Abhishek are still in hospital after they were admitted on July 11.

In a post on official blog, the Bollywood veteran said that he became emotional when Aaradhya told him that he would be "back home soon".

"They go home, the little one and Bahurani... and the tears flow out... the little one embraces and tells me not to cry... 'You’ll be home soon', she assures... I must believe her," he said.

On Monday, Abhishek had said that he and his father were still under the care of medical staff at the Nanavati Hospital's isolation ward.

"My father and I remain in hospital under the care of the medical staff. Thank you all for your continued prayers and good wishes. Indebted forever," the 44-year-old actor tweeted.

Both Amitabh and Abhishek have been sharing their health updates with fans on various social media platforms.

Last week, Amitabh had dismissed reports that he had finally tested negative for coronavirus, calling the piece of news "an incorrigible lie".

Mumbai's Covid-19 tally rose to 1,10,129 on Monday with addition of 1,033 new cases.

Ernakulam, Feb 29: A court here on Friday issued a bailable arrest warrant against Malayalam actor Kunchacko Boban for failing to appear before it for witness examination in an assault case filed by an actress.

Ernakulam Additional Sessions Judge Honey M Varghese issued the arrest warrant.

As per the court's direction, Boban can take bail from police station and appear before court on March 4.
