Abdul Rauf Puthige is JD(S) state general secretary

Mangaluru, Nov 17: Abdul Rauf Puthige, a well-known entrepreneur, social worker and philanthropist has been appointed as the general secretary of the Karnataka state unit of the Janata Dal (Secular) soon after his induction into the party.

Mr Puthige, who hails from Dakshina Kannada district formally joined the party during its executive committee meeting committee meeting in Hubballi on Thursday in the presence of former prime minister H D Deve Gowda, former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy and party’s national chief general secretary B M Farooq.

The JD(S) top brass has expressed confidence that the entry of Mr Puthige, who is a popular social figure and respected by all communities in Dakshina Kannada, would strengthen the party in the region.

Mr Puthige is the managing director of Vishwas Bava Builders, a real estate firm, which has constructed several residential apartments in Moodbidri, Mangaluru and Bengaluru.

He is also the founder of Mangaluru-based Talent Research Foundation, which has been engaged in social and educational activities in past one-and-a-half decades.

Thanking the JD(S) supremo for providing him a political platform to continue his social service, Mr Puthige said that the party’s national president has assured him to implement the recommendations of the Sachar Committee Report within 10 days had it formed the government in the state after 2018 Assembly polls.

Mangaluru, Apr 6: Agricultural produce vendors have decided to hold an indefinite strike from Monday here in city's Central Market.
 
This move comes in response to district administration’s order asking them to shift to the APMC yard at Baikampady and not heeding to their appeal to allow them to operate from the Market and other areas in the city.
 
The district administration has decided to shift the vendors in order to prevent crowding in the market and maintain social distancing norms.

Udupi, Jun 20: The wife and daughter of a 54-year-old man who succumbed to Covid-19, tested positive for the virus on Saturday.

Sources said that the family returned to Udupi on June 18 and the man died the same day while his wife and daughter tested positive today.

The man and his family had arrived at their house in Thekkatte on Thursday, June 18 afternoon. Later in the day, the man died. He was suffering from jaundice and had arrived from Mumbai in the state of illness.
