Abu Dhabi, Jan 23: Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, bid farewell on Monday to an Indian office assistant who worked around 40 years at the Crown Prince’s Court.

Shaikh Mohammad exchanged friendly talks and expressed his thanks and appreciation to Kunhi Mohiuddin, 63, for his hard work and dedication. He wished him success and safe return to his family in the southern Indian state of Kerala.

“The UAE is proud of its brothers and friends who contributed to the march of development and progress in the UAE. We owe them all the respect and appreciation and affection for their efforts and faithful hard work,” said Shaikh Mohammad.

Shaikh Mohammad told Mohiuddin that the UAE will remain his second home country and that he is always welcome whenever he wants to visit the UAE.

Later speaking to media persons, Mohiuddin said that he would definitely come back as and when possible. “I am excited but not fully surprised about this love and affection because I have been experiencing it every day during the past forty years,” he said.

“No doubt that being mentioned by His Highness on his official twitter [handle] is a rare honour. That is the only difference. He and his senior officials …I may say all Emiratis…shower the same love and affection on everyone around them every day… this not a special gesture on a particular occasion like a farewell,” Mohiuddin, said.

In a video posted with his tweet, Shaikh Mohammad was seen hugging Mohiuddin, talking to him and posing for pictures.

Mohiuddin  always had a chance to see the top leader but from a distance.  When got a chance to speak to the leader for a few minutes, he never anticipated that the entire world would watch it on twitter.

“I have always watched him [Shaikh Mohammad] with admiration when he speaks very friendly with all staff members   with a smile. He spent a few minutes with me and asked me about my wife and children,” Mohiuddin said.

He joined the media department of the Crown Prince Court in 1978.  “I reached Abu Dhabi in late 1977 and landed on this job after few months’ job hunt.”

As he had to support his family at a young age, he had not completed his school education. “I could not pass my tenth grade. This was the best job I could get with my level of education,” Mohiuddin said. “I never had any bitter experience in the past 40 years. My superiors always supported me all possible extend,” he added.

His wife Abida, 48, is here on a visit visa. “She is also excited.”  The couple  has five children- four daughters and a son who is working at his uncle’s shop in Saudi Arabia. Three older daughters got married and the youngest one is studying. “Thanks to this job my family is well settled and even I was abe to help my extended families as well,” Mohiuddin said. He will work until January 31 and would leave Abu Dhabi on February 15.

A 32-year-old Dalit man was allegedly stripped and assaulted by a group of 13 youth in Karnataka's Vijayapura for reportedly touching a motorbike of an upper caste owner, police said on Monday.

"On a complaint by the Dalit victim (Kashinath Talwar), we have booked the 13 accused and investigating the incident, which occurred at Minajgi village near Talikoti on July 18," Vijayapura district Superintendent of Police Anupam Agarwal told reporters here.

"Though Talwar claimed that he touched the bike by mistake and pleaded for mercy, he said the accused severely thrashed him with sticks and footwear and took off his pants while he lay on the road haplessly," Agarwal said, citing from the victim's 2-page complaint in Kannada.

A video clip of the assault went viral on the social media and triggered outrage in the district against the upper caste accused, as the intervention by the victim's parents did not stop them from carrying the assault. Vijayapura is 524km northwest of Bengaluru.

Talwar's father Yankappa also alleged that he, his wife and their daughter were also attacked by the accused when they tried to rescue him from being brutally assaulted.

In a related development, two-three women in the village also filed a complaint with the police against Talwar for allegedly eve-teasing and 'flashing' before them.

"We have summoned Talwar to inquire about his conduct as the women alleged that he teased them, touched them inappropriately and exposed his private parts while they were washing clothes outside their houses," Agarwal said.

Remember social media memes of Chinese companies exporting #BoycottChina hats and t-shirts to India? This time India’s sensational and saffronite TV anchor Arnab Goswami vindicated those memes by hosting an anti-China debate show which was sponsored by Chinese companies!

While the last night's debate was all about boycotting Chinese products in the wake of massacre of over 20 Indian soldiers by their Chinese counterparts in eastern Ladakh, the show was brazenly promoting Chinese products through advertisement placements.

During the debate, amongst the flashy headlines, there were two brand sponsorships that appeared: VIVO and Xiaomi. Both companies are giant Chinese multinational corporations.

Twitter user Nirmala Tai, who was among those who spotted this irony, highlighted two instances during the debate where the logo of one of the brands popped up, and one where Xiaomi was found promoting the Mi 10.

Many Twitterati used Goswami’s some of the favourite words such as ‘hypocrite’ and ‘anti-national’ to target him. They hit out at his channel for accepting sponsorship deals from Chinese brands at a time when anti-China sentiment is strong in the country.

Bengaluru, Jul 23: The Siddi community in Karnataka got its first lawmaker as Governor Vajubhai Vala nominated five persons, including Shantharama Budna Siddi, to the Karnataka Legislative Council on Wednesday.

Shantharama Siddi had been working as a social worker and was a post holder at the Vanavasi Kalyan Prakalpa, a tribal welfare initiative of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

The Siddis, an ethnic group in India, are said to have descended from the people of the East African region. They are included in the list of Scheduled Tribes (ST) in Karnataka.

Apart from the Shantharama, the inclusion of CP Yogishwar, who had left Congress to join BJP in 2017 but failed to retain his seat in the 2018 Assembly polls, is also considered as a big decision.

Adagur H Vishwanath, another former JDS leader, who had quit his party and joined BJP but failed to retain his seat has also caught the attention of the people.

Further, Governor Vala has nominated Talwar Sabanna and Bharathi Shetty to the Upper House in the state.
